Default Here's one for you SST guys

With all this fuss about changes in the super classes I figured I would vent on here about my idea that got squashed...

Two years ago I called Terry Sullivan (SRAC Super class rep) and threw the idea at him about giving SST Division points at National Events . My reason for this was when we run a Sports Nat we get Div points and there is absolutly no reason for us to run a National other than to get a bigger check and a bigger Wally (Oh and help pay the friggin insurance). He told me that was probably the most constructive proposal he had been approached with . He took this to the meeting in Indy and left there with an ok but NHRA still had to approve it . Before I entered the Houston Nats in 09 I called and asked if we were still on with the points thing and was assured by our D4 people we would get them. Well California changed the rules in the middle of the game and turned around and said we wouldnt . Needless to say I raised a little Hell ! I called the guy in Cali and told them what I thought and he really didnt care . I called our girl in competition and withdrew and the other seven guys that run with me did also .

If any of you Super Streeters think this is a good idea call your Division Rep and or the SRAC and push for it ! It couldnt be to much of a chore for them to do this for us .We run our butts off to make all the division races and granted some people may get left out becuase of grade points and I'm sorry for that but thats the way the points system works. I take this stuff seriously and think we should get a fair deal .

OK I feel better now .....Thanks , Regan Wilson

That's the first I heard of it ......I think....

We would have included it this time around....if someone would have mentioned it....

I spoke with Graham Light this past weekend and he said they made the rule changes based on what we suggested....
so I don't see a problem with changing the points thing.....but probably not till next time around.....

Rock...

Question Re: Here's one for you SST guys

Regan, I have not problem with your suggestion and will support it. I offer another suggestion. Since Super Street is no longer a "beginner" class and the Scotty rule has been dropped, why don't we have a national champion with competition at the national events like the other sportsman racers? Sid

Easy, because that requires at least another $50K sponsorship from Lucas Oil (or somebody). Not enough to go around.

Now come on Sid you are not a beginner !!!! And I'm not either ! I dont have the time or the funds to chase an NHRA national championship , neither do 90% of the other SST racers around the country . The issue with me is alot of us could get some points at the Nats instead of driviing 500 to 700 miles for an out of division race .

I thought that I was crazy for thinking about getting points for Super Street at a national event ,to be used for divional points. I have been thinking about it for several years ,but never got off my lazy butt, thinking that it would be turned down ,since I was the only one thinking it.I would be happy if it was used as an out of division race, just to get credit for it.
Thank you Regan for speaking your mind !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think its a great idea. After all, there is no National Championship, its the least they can do. If you dont win the event, at least you bring home some points.

I'm all for it. However there are lots of issues that would need to be resolved. I also like the idea of it being considered a OD race, this way it wouldn't necessarily force you to attend. This would also give NHRA some relief on the quota issue.
I too like the idea of a National Champion. However the points system would require quite a bit of thought to ensure everyone has a equal shot. Otherwise the fattest wallet could rule (?).
I kinda think that Rock is correct. The committee may be a better avenue to have your issue addressed than the div office.

Ray I wouldnt care if it were an ID or an OD . When they started giving us div points for the Sports Nats I started going . Granted they call that an ID race for us the only difference is they dont give Jegs points . NHRA has to have the quotas becuase of time and space restraints we couldnt change that . The way I see it is the serious racers or arent going to have a problem getting in . The people it would affect are the rookies and the sometimers that dont have the grade points . So if they did it like the Sports Nats but called it an OD race that would be fine with me .
