Default Intro and Question

Hi guys,
I'm a stock/super stock fan from way back-just found the site!
So i am considering an old IHRA S/S 1965 Corvette that is local to me.
It is originally a U.S. car that was owned and campaigned by a gentleman named Howard Shinton with a small block,5 spd. in the early 80's
Still has the transverse rear spring set-up in the rear(with Dana 60),but now has a LS7 based big block/glide in it.
It is a clean car,with a full interior(nearly everything still works!)& cage.
So the big question for me is what would be fair dollar value of a vette like this???
Obviously don't want to pay too much-who does?
Just don't have a lot to go on as far as a vette race car goes...hope this is okay for a first post.
Here she is...Thanks for any/all input!
Dominic

Looks nice! Motor and correct hood will run about 20K for a fast S/S so I guess if you get it for 30k, total investment would be 50K. Of course there will be odds and ends (10K) to update, then you will want it painted and fresh tires, etc etc ...... another 10k and then you will probably be able to sell it for 25K but only if it runs -1.20 under. I'd do it!!!

I think $25 - 30 K would be a fair to good price if the car is in reasonable shape. The early Vettes have a lot of intrinsic value if they are pretty straight. Racing is not usually a lucrative investment but it is whole lot of fun and a huge sense of personal achievement for our family.

Good Luck

Thumbs up Re: Intro and Question

Being an old Street-Freak, and I do think It's a neat car, I would probably give about 25k, leave the Wheellie Bars, take off the slicks and replace with big street rubber, and an Exhaust system, go have fun on the street ! I'm not a Chevy man, just Mopars , But I do like Corvettes . Where do you live ?.......Have fun and be SAFE.........John

Thanks for all the input so far guys!Keep it coming!
I should have mentioned,I likely won't run it in super stock-though I do love these style of race cars!

Talking Re: Intro and Question

Buy it you'll have a blast! I think the only way you could loose money on it is if you crash it!

...the big issue here is that the owner thinks it is worth a lot of money-he is in the $50K range!
