Default Bosie, It Seems To Me.......

Maybe I'm crazy but it seems to me that Bosie is altitude factored a tad too slow. Like about two tenths to be exact. In Stock and SS Two cars are more than -1.40 under and the top 7 are more than -1.30 under. When was the last time you saw that at a non-factored track? Now if they are going to let Charlie Smith set the B/SA record at a factored 10.14 @ -1.41 under then he shoud be given a present next Tuesday from NHRA. Either factor these altitude tracks closer to real world performance or don't alow records! I don't think anybody will be resetting this record at a non-corrected track until its time is up. This is crazy!

Oh yeah and Don Little set the GT/FA record at a factored 9.65, That's .12 below the current record.

I guess if you want to get rid of altitude adjustments (or revise them), NHRA should also limit boost pressures to that prescribed to factory specifications since boost will alter the atmospheric conditions seen by the engine. Would that be a fair assesment?

From what I've heard, Boise isn't anywere close to "mineshaft" conditions this year. The current #1 qualifier is Don Little. He holds the National record @ 9.97 in SS/JA and I've seen him run similar times at sea level tracks. Here's his adjusted times after 3 rounds of qualifying:

624 GT/FA Don Little, Westley CA, '70 Challenger 10.025 11.47 -1.445

Looks like they may have Don incorrectly listed under SS/FA when he should be in SS/JA if still running his 383. SS/FA would normally be a 440-6 in a Challenger.

"Speaking of correction factors, NHRA should limit boost pressures to that prescribed to factory specifications"

Yeah, that would be a hard thing to monitor wouldn't ya think? You would have to have an NHRA tech guy ridding in the seat next to ya with a official NHRA calibrated boost guage. And where would you have him check it? At the turbo? Or the waste gate? Or the manifold? Or use my guage? Yeah that's it, he can watch my guage.

"My reports indicate Boise isn't anywere close to "mineshaft" conditions this year"

Yep and that makes the situation even more rediculous!

Hey! you threw me a curve Jeff! No fair rewritting your post while I was answering it!

Maybe I'm a little touchy on the altitude thing 'cause I'm driving the ONLY S or SS car ever to be factored because of a run at an altitude corrected track! You probably remember that little incident Jeff. That deal cost my combo 6 hp and still haunts me and everybody else who runs it to this day!

Not so Jim. You AREN'T the only Stock/SS car to be factored at an altitude track. Both Neil Smedley (with the Turbo Firebird) and our Oldsmobile (with Kandra driving) were factored at the 2001 Las Vegas National Race.

At one time I was told that 1.40 under would deserve a factor no matter where it took place; altitude track or not. I don't know if that still holds true.

Jerry

According to the AHFS on NHRA's web page< any run of 1.40 or more gets a present at any race natl div or Nat open. Or does the run have to be faster than 1.40 when corrected?

BOB MULRY CAN YOU EXPLAIN???????????

Well don't try to get everybody else factored just 'cause NHRA pissed in your corn flakes!!!

SCCA , F1, IRL and all the other racing venues keep tabs on boost....oh, never mind!

Rich, Yes, the run has to be 1.40 under the sea level index.

Jeff, I think you completely misunderstood my point. I don't want to get anybody refactored, especially fellow Mopar racers, but what's fair is fair. If you can set the record at a factored track then you should be able to be factored also. It is pretty obvious that the correction tables are flawed, reference to our previous posts. That is my point, that's all, no sinister ulterior motives.Jim
