Default Lucas Oil National Points Updated

Updated on the completion of today's Vegas Divisional....

http://www.nhra.com/points/lucas-nat.aspx

If someone had told me two months ago that Biondo would lose Super Stock and stand the risk of losing Super Gas (to Sawyer) I'd said they are crazy...not to mention somebody catching Jody at Vegas....guess that's what makes it so interesting.

Never in a million years did I think anyone would catch Jody.

What made it even more interesting was in the semi-finals today.I wonder who he was rooting for?

If Joe Sorenson would have won in the semis,Jody would have lost the Division 6 Championship I think. If he lost, then Jody was the Division 6 Champ, but was in danger of losing the World Championship.

As everyone knows by now,he lost the World Championship, but won the Division 6 Championship. If Joe Santangelo would have lost in the final,I believe Jody would have won both the Division 6 Championship AND the World Championship.

What a feeling it must have been to not be at all in control of his destiny at that point.Nothing he could do but hope for the best.Kind of like the same feeling you get in a heads up race when you are down by several tenths. You hope for the best, but really don't control your destiny!

Jody had a great year, ran the table at National events, but it has to be a little disappointing.

Who needs the Countdown? This was an amazing finish to the points chase. Some of the other battles have yet to be determined also!

Wow......Amazing performances under extreme pressure and these are some really great racers.....My hats off to them....It's hard to imagine someone can win as much as Jody Lang did and NOT win the National Title....but it is the way the points formula works......Not really unlike when David Rampy or Dan Fletcher has won a lot of races and not won the National title....Every year it seems like these last 2 races have a huge effect on the outcome for the National titles......

It ain't over yet.Sorenson has a chance to still win the championship next week. And
Peter, according to the points is the S/G champion. And Sal is holding on by 2 points in Comp. He'll need a good car next week to hold off Ficco for the Comp championship. But of course, the stoned on fuel fans haven't got a clue about the real points chases.

Sorenson can only improve by 65 points if he wins. That won't make over 701.

According to DRC Mike Sawyer needs to go to the finals at Pomona to catch Pete, either way it was a great and interesting season all around. Glad it wasn't a blow out and everyone made it interesting for us all.

Your 6th national can replace your worst national showing. You get 3 of 6 nationals and 5 of 8 divisionals. So Sawyer can improve.

Ed,
I'm looking at the same thing but, was told that he needs to reach the finals at Vegas (Done) and finals at Pomona to get the championship....

This is what they posted after he won 2nd round:

Sawyer keeps his chances for the national championship alive, but he needs to keep on winning in order to dislodge Peter Biondo from the top spot. Mike Sawyer's MOV: 0.0293 seconds (approximately 7 feet). He needs to reach the finals to take the national title.

If that was the case his races would be listed now as 4/8.Just saying.
