Default msd 7al2 querys

G,day,
Has any one done any real back to back testing between a 6al and 7al2 ignitions and verified any real world drag strip gains?
Also has any one compared the hi rpm timing on these units as far as any inherent retarding as rpm increases, are they similar between the units?
Engine is a roughly 600 hp na on alcohol.
Thanks very much!
Paul

Ran a 6 and Blue HVC coil and a 7 with Red HVC back to back with a

High Compression E/SA 340 and did not find a bit of difference. Same timing

and plug gap. Never had the time to fool with it any further.

To add to what Pat said about power output.
We did a test and the 7 box would run a higher RPM with a wider plug gap before a spark induced miss.
This test was done on a high compression ratio Comp type engine.
I have one good used 7 Al and 1 brand new one I would be willing to sell.
PM me for contact info. pictures available for e-mailing

Hi Pat.
First I would like to thank you for the informative posts. Due to reading these I am thinking about doing some upgrade to my ignition before the start of the season. I have a SS/ HA Camaro. I have a 7al2 box. The coil is an MSD Pro Power coil 20+years old, The plug wires are Moroso and are also at least 20 years old. I see you reccomend the 8251 coil. What would be a good choice for plug wires.

We run 8261 Coils on all our Stock/SS cars...............Is the 8251 a better
choice?
