Ok it is time for NHRA to change the National Points method .
After thinking about the way NHRA does the National Championship points chase it is time to change it . The way it is structured now is no doubt gives the major edge to the Racer who goes to the most races see the last ten years on who wins. this use to be fair but now it is not due to a whole bunch of reasons such as the Cost of Going to Race . only a racer who goes to the most races will always win the championship no doubt see the last ten years on who wins those who go to the most races . . By eliminating the present way to win the national championship, and having a different way would enable a racer who who cannot afford to go to a zillion races may have a chance to win the National Championship I think it is a good assumption and I think most agree it is NHRA's Morally , Ethically if not Legally responsibility to have a fair and level playing field for all of their card carrying members who race Under NHRA Sanction to win The National Championship What does other Think ?No personal attacks or else I will delete the whole post .(fyi)

Don,there's nothing wrong with the system. The problem is that you want to dumb it down to the lowest common denominator.
The chase for the World was never meant for the weak and poor.Besides, the 3/5 system which anyone seriously chasing points is fairly easy to attain. The extra 3/3 seperates the men from the boys. Plan your racing season in Feb.,stay as close to home for the 3/5 and if you have the points then go for the 3/3.Simple Don,it's not Little League where now if one team scores more than 10 runs the game is stopped and everybody goes to the mall fast food center and feels all warm and bubbly.

Points for rounds
Points for qualifying position Points for national record All three give incentives to compete, play hard and spend money. There is NO reason not to give points to these.

NO AHFS penalty for qualifying times, national record runs or heads-up runs in competition (like class runs and runs against like-classed cars in Eliminator racing.)
Records would be realistic reflections of what the cars actually can do, and would start to mean something again. REAL racing would return, but the AHFS program would still be in effect for handicapped eliminations. Double points for national records.

The most expensive part of racing for me by far is the travel costs so with only 1 national event in the division, it doesn't make sense to even consider chasing national points. I don't think you guys on the east coast and in div 7 know how lucky you are.
As far as the system goes, it works if you live in the right part of the country. Jim Mantle U/V/SA 6632 |

I got a great Idea. Bring the top 3 in each division plus all national event winners to a track at the end of the year and let them race for the world championship.

I'm not going to say that it's easy to win in any Division but the competition in Divs. 1 and 3 are killer.
