Default Doing a burn out with a 200 metic

So what is the correct way to do a burn out with a metic 200. The car is 85 Olds Cutlass with a 307 Olds motor. Here is what I have been doing, starting in low, shifting to second and then to third. But when I shift to third, I loose my wheel speed and it lugs down. So now I have changed to this style, start in low shift to second and roll out of the water. The second way seems to work good. But now I have tore up the low and rev sprag.
Thanks Alan

my metric is an auto 1-2, and I just put the shifter to 2nd , tach it up, watch the rpm's drop and release the line lock. Have done it this way for over 20 years even with a turbo 350 and no problems (knock on wood).

Alan, for my combination. I have a rev limiter. Set the limiter, put it in second, quickly roll into it go to high righ away, little bit of smoke let go of the line lock. I do keep the RPM's up on it because if to low it will lug it down quick on my car. In high gear with the rpm's up roll out of the water and roll out of the gas before the tires catch. I was told from Paul Forte to not start in low gear he said that it was not good for it. So I start in second then high. Sorry for the long answer.

Mine is a TA also, and I start in 2nd, and almost immediately go into 3rd.

to the best of my knowledge 2nd gear is the weak link so I stay away from 2nd and I start my burn-out in 3th and that not easy. chuck

Alan,

The safest thing to do would be to contact your trans builder for their recommendation.

I have been running a 200 in my car for over 12 years now. It was built by Billy Lynn, and he told me to do the burn out in 1st and 2nd only, not 3rd. When I see the first sign of smoke in 2nd, I let off the line lock and roll out of the water. I try to let off the throttle before the tires catch as Robert suggested earlier. I keep the rpms between 6000-7000 to keep the wheel speed up. I have never had a problem doing a burn out this way. But as with most racing parts, always consult with your particular builder for their recommendations.

Thanks for all the info guys. Dean the last time I talked to my trans builder, they wanted to lock me up for talking to myself(LOL). I have talked to Billy and Leo, and they put me on the right track.
