Just a question for Bruce, Travis, Danny or any NHRA TECH guys
How can a combo get automatic hp when these things don’t happen after a run? No fuel check when it’s not mandatory No scale when it’s not mandatory No teardown I am not saying that I would not have passed all these things or that my combo did not need hp. All I am saying what is stopping someone from putting a big inch motor or pulling weight in a car and getting someone else's combo auto HP? Example I barrow some ones 1970 350 camaro run 1.00 under in qualifying and first round I pull out 300 pounds and red light. I run 1.30 and never scale, fuel check or teardown. How mad would greg hill be then?

Charlie I'll give you a better example.
In the short 3 day events They run qualifying, class, and up to 3 rounds of the eliminator in one day. I know some motors came with zippers. But tell me how they could possibly tear anyone down?

Charley, I have asked this question for years. How can you give anyone HP without checking them? I know several people who have torn there car down after running hard enough to get automatic HP. But they volunteer to do it! I have always believed that anyone run fast enough to get HP on Monday should be required to tear down! I do not care how late it is. If they refuse then they get suspendend for one year, and they have to tear down before there first race back. If you lose the round run fast enough and go around the scales and fuel check (on purpose), then you can be suspended for one year. I like others have seen this done for years. It is broke and needs to be fixed.

It's a tough situation, considering it happened on Sunday, not much time to tear down. They should definitely weigh and check the fuel of the car. Maybe they should seal it up and tear down at the next race?

I believe the same thing happened a few years ago in Houston at a LODRS. Fred Henson redlighted in round 1, ran 9.89 in A/SA, and got the street Hemi in the B-body (??) hit for it. Never scaled, fuel checked or tore down. Not saying Fred, or Charley, were doing anything fishy, but it's hardly fair to add HP to a combo without checking ANYTHING.
I always felt (and have heard that in some Divisions it does) that any car that gets automatic HP for -1.200 or more should be torn down automatically to insure all is accurate.

If you would have beat Patrick you would have had to scale and maybe fuel. Lol
I couldn't help myself. Like Andrew said, it was Sunday. I don't think there was enough staff there to keep the scales and fuel going and have someone go through teardown with you. Now you can open the throttle another 1/8 of an inch. Lol

Charley,
I think that would be standard procedures for most combos getting HP (fuel check, weight and tear down), but you have been apart several times in the last few months, you made 3 qualifying runs, one within a couple hun of 1.20 under and they know you play by the rules ... LOL nice run .... I guess you should have had a better light so you did not have to run it out the back door to catch Pat ..

It may stun you Charley, but I actually agree with you.
Those of us who have been campaigning to have the AHFS completely overhauled have been saying for years that any car triggering an instant HP hit, at any time, under any circumstances, should be subjected to a national record level tear down. If it is Sunday night, and the car makes it to the final round, so be it. The car still comes apart for a full tear down, just as if it were a record attempt, before it ever leaves the event premises. If it doesn't happen, the factor is not changed, and the car, owner, and driver get a year off. Even if they never overhaul the AHFS, there's no excuse for their system not automatically flagging any and all 1.2 under runs, and having tech make sure the car at least goes across the scales and through fuel check, even on a loss.
