In 1974 Ralph Van Paepeghem won the Division 6 Superstock championship in a '66 Chevy II 2 door sedan. The following year he built a 2 door hardtop that was raced by him for several seasons before being passed on to a string of other racers. I'm sure someone knows the history of the car after it left the west coast. Can we trace it to today?
Heres some shots I took of it back in the day: Photo 1: Portland points meet, in the pits, summer '75. The car had '67 fenders and grille, but from the trunk trim, I believe it was an original '66 Super Sport. Photo 2: Ralph making a run at Portland, which got rained out and was rescheduled just before the upcoming inaugural NHRA Fallnationals. Photo 3: Back at Portland rerun, car is now painted, still sporting the '67 frontend. Photo 4: NHRA Fallnationals in the staging lanes,, September '75. Photo 5: Preparing for burnout against Judy Lilly's Duster at the Fallnationals. Photo 6: '77 Fallnationals, the car now has graphics and lettering, and '66 frontend. Photo 7: '80 Fallnationals, against "Old Trapper" Hemi Dart. Graphics still on Nova. Photo 8: Seattle '85,, car now belongs to Val Hedworth, graphics still on quarterpanels. Car is now white. Photo 9: Last time I ever saw the car, still out of Div.7. I don't know who owned it here, but amazingly, the graphics, now in different colors are still present. This was at Seattle in the early 1990s. Anyone have more current pics? Where is this car today? Thanks for any info Danny Durham Last edited by Geerhead55; 01-06-2013 at 01:35 AM. |
