Only 80% of the spots filled. Should have plenty of room.
I guess NHRA's enhancements are starting to kick in.

Event total allowed 962. actual entries 762
163 paying sportsman entries not filled. That is quite a bit of entry money.

What is kind of ironic is that Super Gas and Super Comp are ALL RUN fields, and they couldn't even get 128 cars in each class. Stock has a 128 car qualified field, and almost met quota at 180. Looks like Stock is getting to be a pretty popular category.Super Comp and Super Gas appear to be losing interest. |

80% is about average for the season.
Fuel costs, and basically an entire week (vacation time) to run the event has more to do with it than anything IMO.

I don't think S/Gas and S/Comp racers are losing interest ... but WHY go to a six day race, get treated like you are in the way and race against traveling pros with a trailer load of cars and tons of experience racing on different days with no times runs? It's skill set that as many guys want to roll the dice against any more.
Easier to take your toys and go to a "sandbox" that pays better, requires less time off work and you get to make some runs down the track, not stand around and watch; because they probably have no place for you to sit...you only paid what... about $300 for an entry fee and $100.00 for each crew person? It's not popularity, it is most Super Class racers also bracket race and guys with Stockers have Indy as their biggest race of the year. I loved racing there a few times, just never really got me interested in all the sitting around. Jok |
