Default Early Carter AFB replacement

Was looking at the guide the other day and couldn't find a replacement carb for some of the early Carter AFB carbs. I believe the number was 3105s and 3106s ( 1437x1437/1186x1186 ). Just curious of what the suitable replacement carb would be for a SS engine or would one need to locate an original? Also, what is the cfm rating as well? Any info is very much appreciated!

The only aftermarket AFB that was made with the small throttle bores (1 7/16") was the model 9400 or 9410 (400 cfm) and they had wrong size venturi (1.125" pri 1.250" sec.). That size carb you listed was used on a gazillion early MoPars. I would think that other than having to pay for one in good condition, they should be available. You do realize that the exact number does not have to match?

I would think there would be an applicable Edelbrock.

Will do, they need all the bright spots in the world right now. I know it doesn't need to be matching but was unsure of the replacement carb to use in its place. I will have to pull out rule book to review rules. Am I right in assuming that the carb only has to match the given dimensions in the guide as long as its an AFB style carb?

Are you sure you are looking for a 3105 replacement carb? I think that part number was only on a '60-'61 engine.

1960 - 61
361" ENG
2969S, 2970S, 3105S, 3106S, 3140S
CARTER AFB

Edelbrock makes a legal replacement AFB for 1962 thru 1972 Carter AFBs.

The Edelbrock Part Numbers are 1405 and 1406.

The 361/305 carb has a slightly smaller secondary than the more common 383, 413 or street wedge AFB. A 63 383 AFB I tested on my bench flowed 566 CFM, I think it was rated at 575. The 361/305 is the same size as the 318/260 AFB and is probably in the 500 to 525 range. These AFBs have no weights in the back but work quite well for their size. The way I read it, the 383 to 426/365 can run the replacement carb but not the 361, maybe nobody asked for it, cant hurt to try. If I wasn't neck deep in my 2 projects cars now I would be very interested in the 361/305 as this is the motor that started it all for me back in 71.

Paul, I wish I was at that point. That 61 361/305 looks like fun with the big valves(2.08/1.74).
