Default Need help with fwd transmission.

Just purchased Mike Moller's LeBaron.Went to Adel this weekend to learn to drive a fwd.Had a good time ,went rounds, made a lot of runs. One ended early when the trans quit.Have found that the transfer gear and the drive gear are ruined.Where can I get some high performance parts for this.Would also like to find better drive axles as Mike said he broke a few.Do not want to have another no show when it can be prevented. Thanks, David

I cannot help you with the trans parts themselves, but as for the axles a good place to check out is Drive Shaft Shop, talk to Frank. If he doesn't have something on the shelf, he will work something out with you.

As for the trans parts, maybe start with Liberty or GForce

Liberty Gears makes High perf ones and in different ratios. Stan Kopetka's car has them.

dss axles for the FWD cars are junk. I broke 3 of them with my N/A Neon. For axles use good OEM axles and get someone to rebuild them (not with Chinese parts).
As far as the side gears go. I would not invest a lot of money in them. The 1.05's from the mini vans. should be just what you need along with a 3.05 ring and pinion.
The 1.22 (racing or 79 Omni) side gears go for about $400 and are very hard to find. I just sold the last 2 I had A few months ago.
For the Turbo car a 3.23 final drive should be fine.

Hi David You will not get a lot of info on here. FWD cars are very different than the regular cars. Plus you have the Turbo
Try Turbododge.com or Turbomopar.com. Those guys don't run stockers. But they make an awful lot of power and some go in the 10's

Art, which DSS axles did you have issues with?

Back when I raced FWD stuff, 2000-2003, I ran their Stage 5 stuff and never broke anything. That was in a 2100lb, 700whp, 9 second FWD car. I wasn't cutting crazy 60's (1.4's) and the car was really light, but I broke a ton of stock stuff and switched to the DSS Stage 5's and never broke anything.

Did you deal directly with Frank? Just curious as it's odd to hear things like this with his products.

They were stage 3's All broke in the same place, sheared off in the differential, different sides. The piece they used was a made with inferior steel. Broke 2 of them with a Quaiffe Differential. One with a spool. Went to "good" rebuilt OEM axles and haven't had a problem.
Don't remember who I talked to but the axles were 3 years old but only had 20 passes. I understood that the warranty was not in effect but I wanted to know what was causing it. Basicly they told me they were to old. Sort of like "milk or vegtables" with a shelf life.
I know what usually breaks the axles is the motor moving. My motor didn't move one bit. Zero wheel hop.
I raced turbo dodge stockers for years and never broke an axle. The turbo stocker had more torque than my superstocker.
