Default Lowering the Super Stock GT class weight breaks?

Has this topic come up for review so that changes can be made? Seems like the time is right as the cars continue to get faster. It will also allow those running GT classes to have more options. At the very least, you would like it to match the natural class weight break starting point which is 5.5. Sounds like a good idea to me or am I off base?

I was always in favor of lower weight breaks in GT. Currently, the top class in GT is GT/A-GT/AA, 8.00-8.49 pounds. Same as SS/E-SS/EA. So no way for a driver to get the higher HP motors into GT without weighing a ton (actually two tons). And not just the modern hi-po factory motors. LS-6 454/450 for example, L-89 S/BA Corvette engine, and others (not to mention a Hemi rated 500). Maybe in the future it will happen, especially considering the factories releasing new, high HP motors on a yearly basis.

Start at 6.00 lbs per. Great Idea. Get some new iron in GT. Long overdue.

I've also been trying for years. Recently spoke to Bruce about it and he told me that there was little or no interest from the racers.

Then, let us start some interest. First send an email to your SRAC member from your division, second Bruce, and Pat C, third a discissussion on here by sane people about the virtues of the new classes, I also like to keep all the Division Directors in the loop, (it's an email, even I can do that). The Virtues are; all the rules exist, just faster classes (AA/BB/CC/DD easy, or redo GT/A to 6 lbs.; whatever is easier), the cars are already here, more powerful motors are just a natural evolvement, and add some of your own. Also remember, Tirades are not allowed (except by my wife about racing too much) and the NHRA officials and your fellow racers don't want to hear that. The good part is this is a common sense move up for Super Stock GT.

NHRA has stated they don't want to create any more classes but I can't see a problem with lowering the starting point providing that doesn't affect a bunch of cars at the other end of the spectrum. I've also had requests to remove the V8 only stipulation. Does anyone see a problem running a V10 or even a V6 if it fits the class and the engine is recognised in the guide as an accepted S/SS combo?

Cool Re: Lowering the Super Stock GT class weight breaks?

I'm in favor of lower weight breaks! I have sent emails, talked to Bruce, begged .....answer has been no. It needs to have lower breaks so the new engines can get in!

I like your thinking.

I believe this is something that NHRA has to do!! The 8# weight break is from 30 plus years ago when GT cars began as rear wheel drive.(a big thanks to Don) IF NHRA can rollout a new weight break for the new factory cars when they get too much horsepower (both stock and SS), I think they should bring GT into this century!! Why not give GT the chance to also use the latest technology ?
