Default Boicesco's, Mayers take Inagural Autometer Top 8 Shootout

The Inaugural Autometer Top 8 Shootout presented by S&W Race Cars and Nitroplate High Temp Coatings was held at Cecil County Dragway on August 9th. This event featured the Top 8 qualifiers of the 2014 Mid Atlantic Super Comp, Gas & Street seasons 1st 6 events.

In the Top 8 final of MASCA the 2 Wildcards found their way to the finals as #7 Amanda Boicesco squared off against #8 Andy Roberts. Amanda got the benefit of an early retirement of Tom Boyle to make her way into the shootout while Roberts got in as the Wildcard. Roberts made his way to the finals with a victory over #1 qualifier Joey Cambria & #4 Dave Long. Amanda took care of #2 qualifier Don Bangs & #6 Chase Fahnestock. In the finals Boicesco got the jump on Roberts and parlayed that into a 8.972 to 8.979.

In the MASGA Top 8 Shootout race Amanda's dad Iggie made it an all family affair with a victory in the 9.90 class. Boicesco entered the event as the # 2 qualifier and took down #7 Don Knoblick in the 1st round. Next up Boicesco took down #3 qualifier Bob Keister on his way to the finals. Waiting in his way was #1 qualifier George Donhauser. George received a bye-run in the 1st round after #8 qualifier Jerry Holcomb couldn't fire his car. In a battle of Maryland, Donhauser then took out #4 qualifier Mickey Varner. In what would be a great finals both drivers were dead even at the tree but, Donhauser just couldn't drag the brake a little more and ran out 9.899 to Boicesco's winning 9.943.

Rounding out the Top 8 race was MASSA and the 10.90 group. Keith Mayers got the lucky break as # 5 qualifier Frank Quarno Jr. went on vacation and couldn't make the event so Mayers replaced him. Keith then parlayed that into a round #1 bye-run as # 4 qualifier Bernie Staub hurt his motor earlier in the day. Next up was a victory over # 8 Wildcard driver Nick Mayo. Waiting for Mayers in the finals was #2 Qualifier Jeff Fisher. Fisher took care of # 7 Qualifier Jimmy Stack & #6 Qualifier Martie Ganjoin. In the finals Mayers won it on a holeshot as he was .008 to Fisher's .012 and parylayed that into a 10.904 to 10.902 victory.

Thanks again to the great sponsors who came on board for this event - Autometer, Nitroplate, S&W Race Cars, Bushwacker Bodygear, RL Fuels, Silfies Automotive, Mike's Auto Service & ATI Transmissions. We'll see you at the 2015 Top 8 Shootout!!
