Default One Way Trailer Rental

Hello,

My family and I are moving from Mebane, NC to Paducha, KY in a couple of weeks. I have a 73 Dart (not running) I'd like to move using a one-way trailer rental. The only business I've found that does one-way trailer rental is U-Haul and the fee is $841!!! That is highway robery.

I've checked the bugets, penske, ryders, but none of them do one way rental without renting their moving truck too.

Does anyone have an idea who I could rent a one way rental from?

Thanks,

Chris Hill

Chris,

Something you may want to consider is a tow dolly. Put some good tires on the back on your car, strap it down and hook 'em. I did this 850 miles with a '69 Chevelle and had no problems.

Even the tow dolly one way rental was $420. I've considered this, but that is too much. I almost bought a dolly for $400 before.

Thanks for the reply,

Chris

Wow, U-haul must really not like those two cities. I have rented a U-haul car trailer twice, one way each time. Once from Des Moines to Chattanooga and another time from Greenville SC to Chatt. I think the most I paid was the Des Moines trip and it was under $200. You should try checking rates from Raleigh, Durham or Greensboro instead of Mebane. Also check to the largest nearby city in KY. You might have to run around a little to pick up and drop off, but it should be much cheaper.

Hi Chris
I work for uhaul what happens somtimes. Is if they have a lot of
equipment in one location they raise the rate to slow the flow
into that area.

I've moved cars one way several times, looked in the local trader paper where i purchased a car & found a used trailer. Doesn't have to be an expensive car trailer. Some of the equipment types with wood flooring are inexpensive & have brakes. When i got the car home sold the trailer & lost maybe $50 to $200 but always less than renting one. Most states will give you a 10 day tag.Just an idea that always worked for me.

Dennis,

Your exactly right. I changed going from Efland, NC to Paducah, KY to Burlington, NC to Clarksville, TN. The clarksville one way is $91, a savings of only $700!

Thanks everyone for your help.
