Default 3rd Generation Waibel to take the track

For those of you who are up on your history, there will be a piece that you can put in your books this Thursday as Jacob Waibel, son of Jeremy Waibel, and Grandson of Jimmy Waibel, steps into a Jr. Dragster for his first lap of Drag racing at the age of 8. Jacob is the 3rd Generation on both sides of his family to race. Jacob is being afforded this opportunity by a family friend who has a child in Jr. Drag racing and offered for him to come and test and tune at Lakeland, Florida. For those of you who are familiar with the Waibel name, you know that Jimmy was a driving force in the creation of Lakeland Dragstrip where the nationals were held in the 70's. This dragstrip is soon to be demolished or so the rumor mill goes, and I think that it is awesome that he gets this opportunity to do this before we no longer have this piece of history. We are very excited in Jacobs determination to drive like his dad and grandfather, and hope that we will one day be able to put him in his own car to race.
So anyone who plans to be racing in 8 - 10 years you need to be aware that Jacob Waibel will be hitting the tree like his dad and the stripe like his grandpa....... (scary huh) Fletch and Biondo... that means you too!!!!

:-)

Just as a side note, we just got a call from the local news and they are picking this up as a major story seeing as how this is probably one of the last times that all of the current waibel competition cars will be on the track at the same time. We are going to try to get Jacob and Jimmy to make a pass together. If I get pics I will post them.

Congrats to Jacob, and the whole Waibel family. A job well done at 8 yrs old.
Just wanted to check. Is Jimmy the Jim Waibel, That drove Oldsmobiles (Smothers Bros) back in the '70s? I am a big Olds fan.

Yes, is would be THE Jim Waibel. LOL It is so funny to hear people talk about my dad that way.
Jacob learned a lot of lessons last night and I hope the biggest one was respect of his car.... He is ready for mom and dad to get him his own now so I guess he has been bitten by the bug...

It's a honor to talk to the son of one of my drag race heroes.
I am 58 yrs old, and in '72 I was all over your dads white w/blue graphics, Olds(later owned by Buddy Ingersoll) at the U.S. nats. in Indy. Great memories.
PS: I still (brkt) race a '70 Olds Cutlass[:-cheers-:]

Jeremy;
Thank you very much for your kind offer.[:-sunglasses-:]
I still have all the pictures that I took of your dads car (and all the other Olds. S/ and SS/ racers) back at the '72 U.S. nats. in Indy. (that also was my honeymoon). I get them out from time to time, to share the "good ol' days" with my three grown boys and my Grand kids.
I would be honored to have a picture of your dads car signed by him, to add to my photo album.
Let me know how I send you my mailing address.
Again, thanks, and best of luck to you and your family.

PS: Send me your email addy so I can send you (and your dad) pictures of my '70 Olds brkt. car.
