It's been a few years since long time D 1 and short time D 7 Stock eliminator racer Lloyd McKay passed away. I always remember Lloyd this time of year. He really appreciated a good steak . He said that the best day to eat steak was on Good Friday, the lines were always shorter that day.....

I was just talking about Lloyd with my wife the other day. Can't believe it's been 5 years already. Still remember the phone call like it was yesterday...
Lloyd always knew where to get the best deals. One time in Vegas, we went to the car museum at the Imperial Palace. He knew right where to go get the free tickets in the casino. For those of you that ever ate dinner with Lloyd, you know how he liked is meal (coke with no ice, everything on a separate dish). We took him to a Japanese hibachi joint one time. The look on his face was priceless when the chef started mixing all the food together and squirted sauce on Lloyd's steak. Lloyd still ate the steak and even commented it was good. I think I have a picture of this somewhere... |

I actually got to witness this. In all the meals from expensive to free this was near the top of Lloyd dining experiences. The look on his face was priceless. He was always one to rush me to get his free donut. There is always the time that they supersized his meal at Burger King because they felt bad for him and then he proceeded to get into a new Z06 corvette! I did not know Lloyd well but he was always a very enthusiastic car guy.
He was usually at my local track racing something or with someone that was driving a car he owned or was a partner on. That goes back many years. He had a real clean '69 Nova Stocker in the mid 1990's and I said to myself one day if he sells that car, I'm buying it......I did. He delivered it to my place. I Raced it a couple years and even raced Lloyd at the Dutch Classic the first year. He had his Buick..... 10 years later I had an LT-1 firebird I put together and decided to sell it. Lloyd called me from Pomona about it......Showed up at my house a short time later with a trailer hot to buy it and take it home. That was just not possible right on the spot so I told him I'd deliver it and everything I had for it and did. He had a garage full of cars and and car memorabilia.....He had a lot of Class winner Wally's on shelves......2 walls worth.... He was a very interesting guy to say the least......usually pretty quiet but always a good guy. It was a shock to learn of his passing........
