I would suspect a TH 200 Metric. The 4 speed automatics are big, heavy, and suck up HP that the V6 doesn't have. A legal "clutch assisted" 5 speed would probably run well.

I know the one of Chin Racing has a M200. Although likely scarce as hens teeth they were made with a 60 degree v6 bellhousing for the early 3rd gen camaros.

Could have been from a Camaro, but the 1st gen . S 10 also had the that style behind the 2.8 and the 2.5 engines..Might be a little easier to find.

The 231 is a Buick engine and it's a 90 degree V6. The 2.8 in the S-10 is a 60 degree V-6 and it's completely differrent.

That it is..but all Buick 90 degree V6's that were also used in FWD cars, had the GM FWD bell housing pattern..and that includes the 3800 Series III that was used in the Firebird /Camaro.

Later in the development of the 3.8 L Buick they changed the Bellhousing style to the GM small bell configuration . The Buick V-6 used to have the BOP bell , but when that engine was re-done to the Buick 3800 the bell was changed to the GM small bell , so the block was different and was used even in RWD vehicles like the 4th gen Firebirds and Camaros with that small bell . My street car is a 1996 Firebird with a 3800 and it has a 4L60e with that small bellhousing . The small bell was used on the Chevy 2.8 , 3.1 , and 3.4 L engines . |
