Tonight’s episode of Graveyard Carz (Velocity, 10PM Eastern) will feature the completion of my father’s, Gilbert “Gibby” Gay’s, ’71 Road Runner, 440 6-Pack, Hemi 4-speed, Dana rear end car. My father sent this car to GYC almost 6 years ago with a contract that said it would be completed in 2 years. He was told that while they knew that they had a reputation for being late, they thought that they had solved their problem.
If you ever watch the show, you will be well aware of the Cuda that caught fire and burned. The owner almost died while he crawled out of the burning garage. For how long has that episode aired? The answer is YEARS. My father swears that he could see his car in the background when that car arrived and was being unloaded from the car carrier. So much for doing them in order. My father called Mark on this car when it was late. My sister texted Mark repeatedly. I emailed Mark. At one point, my father told Mark that he wasn’t sure if he would be around to see the car done. When my father was put in the hospital for 6 weeks, GYC then jumped on completing the car. During the 6 weeks that he was in the hospital, anytime that he could communicate, he was asking about that car. The situation didn’t only affect him, it affected the whole family. I know that Mark himself worked on the car over Memorial Day weekend. The car arrived late on June 7th, 5½ years after it left our place. We gave it a quick bath and loaded it in the racecar trailer. My sister made arrangements for my father to be wheeled out of the hospital to see the car. They brought him out, he saw the car from all sides, he saw the interior and the engine. He heard it run. The next day, he died. My father got to enjoy his car for 5 minutes. Too little, too late Mark. |

Greg- So sorry to see this story, my condolences. I'm a Mopar guy so I know of your car in Stock. These TV Shops fall into a real problem. The TV production takes up a lot of time and certainly affects the Restoration production. The silliness and cartoons drive me nuts, but this Mopar guy watches! Some shops like Dan's in (Norfolk?), VA is one that quit. Looking forward especially to see your Dad's car tonight! God bless.

Think Ron and others have the right approach in watching the show in honor of your Dad. I’ve got it set to record and if there is any way to throw shade on the show and/or its sponsors I’ll be tempted to do just that. The current culture of attempting to avoid accountability is despicable so very interested in how they frame the delay in completing the car.

Greg, just watched the show. They actually tried to make themselves look good. Lost a
lot of respect for them and the network. Damn shame! Thank you for letting us know the real story. God Speed Gibby and prayers for your family Greg. |

What a crock. The Covid word was brought up. Car should have been done before Covid hit. Shame on Mark and his staff and production crew. Just my 2 cents.
Just so you know. I am so sorry for the loss of your Dad and what you guys went through during this whole deal.
