This is a cut & paste of my email to racerinput@nhra.com
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< I am: Bob MULRY 7516 Stock & Super Stock What are doing with my class? Please stop ruining a PERFORMANCE BASED ELIMINATOR by dumbing down the tech requirements. The any valve job and 3 speed transmissions in combos that did not come from the factory that way are guaranteed to increase performance in the few Super Stock Chevrolet 350ci 295/318 horsepower cars that can afford a $6,500.00 transmission and and unlimited supply of R & D money to re-engineer and test a new transmission combination in a combination that has already been flogged to death with a 2 speed transmission. With that in mind and with the NEW AFHS PROPOSAL the possibly exists that, one and only one, SS/GA, SS/HA or SS/IA 1967, 1968 or 1969 Camaro running a 350ci 295/318 HP combo goes faster that 1.15 under at 2 National Events and being that there are more than 21 cars running that combo an average of -.80 under gets everybody horsepower. This will kill that combo. Why would you give the racers things to make them faster and punish them with HORSEPOWER when they go faster? What you do makes no sense, so why do you do it? ************************************************** ************************************************** ****** This is from the NHRA website: If either the engine family average or the class/engine average are found to be equal to or faster than the numbers shown below, based on the number of runs in the database, a change will be initiated. Runs reviewed Engine family average or Class/Engine average 1- 5 1.00 6 –10 0.95 11 – 15 0.90 16 – 20 0.85 21 – more 0.80 ************************************************** ************************************************** **** Why did you take the valve job rule and change it after, I don't know, maybe 30 years? Is it because it costs NHRA less money or time in tear down? Is it too hard to get qualified tech people that will work for the amount that NHRA is willing to pay Is this part of a plan to so bastardize Stock and Super Stock so it just becomes another bracket with no tech needed other than safety equipment? Why change the transmission rule? It will make combos faster and then they will be hit with Horsepower, resulting in NO PERFORMANCE INCREASE with the $6,500.00 expense. What is your goal? Is it to make the PERFORMANCE ELIMINATORS so generic that nobody will recognize them anymore? JUST STOP BEFORE YOU SCREW IT UP MORE OR DON"T YOU CARE? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> end of my email to racerinput@nhra.com WE MADE THEM (YES IT"S US OR THEM TIME) TAKE BACK THE MUFFLER RULE WHEN WE WORKER TOGETHER. Why should we let THEM ruin our performance eliminator? If you don't think that we will have 3 speeds as P/G replacements in Stock very soon, I have a bridge to sell you. Or am I just jerking off?

I'm trying to understand paying $6500 for a tranny for a shot at winning $200-$300 in contingency that you won't see for at least 5-6 months. Yeah that makes sense

The future don,t look to rosey out there for us, now doe,s it bob ? Performance oriented class!!! What would WALLY think of this new approach ? Look,s to me like the manufactures in the brake and front tire business should gear up production......... as for the THREE SPEED topic .,,, why not save them all $6000 and give them a wieght break ???? I,m totally confused about the timing on all the rule changes, rules not set in stone and some racers are hooked up and got thier rig,s pointed West.... Good thing i do,nt give a **** for golf or boating or there would be one large classified ad........ dennis J_I S/A SS GT/MA

"Excuse my ignorance, but why not just use the National Records for the index, regardless of altitude, weather, correction factors, etc.....????...Is there a flaw in my simple thinking?"
It was run that way years ago. If I remember as it was told to me (now I may be wrong here, and if I am then never mind)...it really killed the car counts, as the same people (ie. record setters) kept winning. Talk about taking a knife, aaah fist, to a gun fight. This would really be a case of (with rare exception) of he or she with the most money wins. The people will really understand the adage "How fast do you want to go, and how big is your bank account?" Just lower the indexes! Last edited by Bill Grubbs; 01-09-2008 at 03:57 PM. |

Dave Cook, When Records were used as index the guys with the biggest egos set the records at the down hill -500 ft air tracks and changed classes. then the racers in the mid west ran .6 slow at every meet. Okay if it were affecting everyone but only some guys had tough records..... INDEX is the only way, just needs tweaked down and hp tighter adjustments to level it out...

I don't understand what you mean by killed the car count? Racing against the national record is the way it started. In some cases you ran class first, than the winners ran it off. All those 60s and 70s cars everyone has been showing have no shoe polish on the windows. Racing against someone with more money in their car in my opinion is the same as racing someone that can afford to travel all over the country racing at every national event. How much does that cost? Mark Faul said in a recent article that he needs to win 50k to break even. Thats a lot of money to me. I feel the fast guys should be rewarded for the work and money they invest in their cars for running them the way a performanced based class should be run. All out, for the guys that don't want to theres bracket racing.
