Vega manual steering box in 3rd gen Camaro help
I picked up a 1990 Camaro that came with Flaming river Vega manual steering box. I noticed pitman arm was not correct. Does anyone know the proper pitman arm & center link combination that is needed to use Vega box in a 3rd gen Camaro? I called Ed Quay and they were unable to help. They suggested I call Speedway Motors. Speedway sent me a pitman arm that has correct offset but does not fit center link ball joint. I believe part # that may work is a 3978040. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Frank |

Only thing I can tell you is I used an S10 box and it bolted right in with factory pitman arm.

I have one at my shop and will get you the number off it.
It came with the Gen 3 Quay car I bought as a project.

I believe Borgeson might have the parts you need also.

Re: Vega manual steering box in 3rd gen Camaro help
The pitman arm on my 3rd gen with Vega box has been welded. The center link hole was cut from the original pitman arm and reattached to the Vega arm.
Note, the Vega box does have a high steering effort. I built another 3rd gen with the S-10 box, and the steering effort was more agreeable. This Camaro came to me with the Vega box and the welded pitman arm. If I were starting anew, I will do the S-10 box.

Re: Vega manual steering box in 3rd gen Camaro help
I have used S-10 box as well in the past with power steering pitman arm works perfect. Camaro that I recently purchased came with Flaming River Vega box with incorrect pitman arm. Vega box is 10 pounds lighter and would like to make it work.
