Default FREE $300,000 SPORTSMAN APPRECIATION RACE AT Tulsa

From the IHRA website:

NORWALK, Ohio (June 6, 2007) ? In an effort to thank all the sportsman racers who participate at the re-run of the Skull Shine Sooner Nationals at Tulsa Raceway Park, IHRA will be hosting a free race for sportsman competitors on Friday, June 22. There is no entry fee and the payout will be over $300,000 in national event contingency postings.

The full story can be found here:

http://www.ihra.com/article/1053.html

I don't know if I missed this or not, but I can't believe that I didn't see it. From a sportsman standpoint, this is about as good as it gets. Too bad my car isn't ready, otherwise I'd have to consider making the 18 hour trek (well, not really, but for anybody that was on the fence about going, this should seal the deal).

Have fun!

I would imagine that the money is from the final race that will not be taken place. So it is not out of the kindest of IHRA but the sponsors which is always appreciated.

Well, I guess I disagree on one aspect of it, and that's because it's FREE entry. Sure, with Mansfield not being contested this year there was the opportunity to add this 2nd race as a Mansfield replacement. But, there's nothing that says that IHRA had to give free entry into the race. They could have just as easily said that they were going to have a 2nd race, normal entry fee applied, for anybody that's interested. I'd be surprised if anybody that went back to Tulsa wouldn't have paid the extra $150 to race in the 2nd race.

Granted, this is still self-serving, as I'm sure IHRA is concerned about the number of entries returning to Tulsa. They could have offered $100 in tow money to everybody that attends, and then charged their normal entry fee for the 2nd race.

Anyway, I realize this wasn't done completely to benefit the racer, but in the end IHRA didn't have to give free entry into the 2nd race.
