Default IMport going rounds in Super Stock at Pomona

Scott Kelley with his FWD 4-cylinder Toyota is on to round two!!! Gotta be a bit discouraging to get spotted by a FWD Toyota.....

The guy was .010 on the tree and the GT car ran .581 over.Give credit where it's due.

Thanks Ed, but I'm waiting to see what he does in round two, Fred Moreno is no pushover, and I'll be surprised if the Corolla survives rnd #2!!! Moreover, if the round one guy would've ran .5 quicker I'd be willing to bet $ that this thread probably would've never appeared...Go Fred!!!

Kelley tanked 2nd round (he was really late and Moreno strapped a heckuva run on him).

And Gary - even if Riddle had been able to run the number 1st round, Kelley was holding .04 on the starting line and would have been alot more interesting.

Way to go Fred...I'm not surprised in the least!!!

Oh, and Tim yes you're right that race would've been alot more interesting, however I still feel that the true consistency of the Toyota would've made my last statement a likely truth! I believe that Riddles consistency would've offset Kelley's starting line advantage...We'll see at the next race Kelley attends, but I'm still waiting for others to bring out their imports as well (especially in Stock Eliminator, since they're ballyhooed as being Americas best street cars)!!! I just want them to show up at the strip and prove it like the American fwd's have been doing for years...I'll at least give Kelley kudos for doing that!

Steve Polhill, Lisa Stephenson, Mark Yaccavone, Randy Hyman, Art Leong, Mark Poole, and myself amongst others have been showing what American fwd's can do...when are the import front/rear wheel drive Stockers going to show up and have the guts to race against Detroits best rear-wheeler's...let alone us???

Might want to cut Scott Kelly some slack...Scott is a second generation racer, son of Larry Kelly who raced a VW in Modified Eliminator back in the day. Of the NOPI freaks, the Kellys were probably the only ones outside the late great John Lingenfelter who actually knew something about drag racing.

I'll cut Scott some slack (I did give him kudos for doing what non of the rest of them that ran the NOPI scene from the west are doing), but given how I feel about the American auto scene, and since I'll think of Dec. 7, 1941 every time I line up next to an import(especially a Japanese one), I'll be hard pressed to cut any imported cars much (if any) slack. Besides, since Volkswagens were originally made by (what once was) the West Germans, and it was the East Germans who produced Hitler (if my memory isn't deceiving me), so I have no qualms with European vehicles. I may not have lost any (immediate) family in that American tragedy, but I feel as an American, that an innocent part of American history was traumatized forever thanks to companies such as Mitsubishi, and their business allies, plus the country for supporting their warped-minded leaders ideals on that originally docile Sunday morning in Pearl Harbor. As far as I'm concerned USA vehicles were, are, and always be No. 1 with me, and those (whoever they are), who think differently can meet me on the line!!!

After years (decades) of favoritism by the magazine writers towards imported (again Japanese)products, inspite of my own eyes seeing that their cars aren't the angels from heaven that Consumer Reports (and other publications of their ilk) feel they were/are, I take great joy in proving that our home grown products are every bit the equal (if not better), of theirs...that's all!

I don't think Scott Kelley has a swastika tattoo or bombed Pearl Harbor and his riceburner is running mid 9's not 13's and that's pretty remarkable for a FWD car running in a bracket race against rear drivers.

Your memory is deceiving you... Hitler had a lot to do with creating the Volkswagen and German race cars kicked everybody back then.

As for Pearl Harbor that was as much the US governments doing as the Japanese.
