I've checked around...sorry, no luck. How about a legit '69 AMX factory Superstocker? #3 of 53 built. Never tubbed or caged. Recent restoration.

My friend bought a new Road Runner in 1970.....383/4 speed. We raced it once or twice after hot rodding it a little. I ran it in G/S one day and would up racing one of those AMC Scramblers for the trophy. The Srambler was running 13.6's but I managed to beat him at the tree and win with a 13.87. The AMC had the scoop and all the special decals....AMC made some decent cars back then and I even looked at one myself as I really liked the Javelin fastback body style......

Jeff, I would love to have one but I'm sure $ 100.00 won't buy it. Question: I seem to remember that when Hurst built them they did something to the wheel base...am I remembering right or has that brain cell died with most of the rest? Jim R

No, it's still a 97" wheelbase just like the street AMX. AMC / Hurst didn't build these cars too awfully special. You got the engine with 12.5:1 Jahns pistons, Crane ported heads, a stock .425" lift street cam and the Edelbrock STR intake with two #4858 (585 CFM) Holly carbs, Mallory distributor, Dougs headers. You buy it, you blueprint it.
The trans was a 2.64 low T-10 with Hurst linkage and modified floor for the linkage. Rear was the Model 20 by Dana with 4.44:1 ratio and aftermarket 1-piece axles. The engine (other than the cam, AMC expected you to put your own roller grind in) was decent. But there wasn't anything really special about the body other than the loss of sound deadner, hood scoop, battery in trunk. Nothing like the Hurst '68 Mopar's with fiberglass front end, light weight glass, seats, etc. But they sure did run and still do today. Right now I see the SS/C record is held by Aris Asdourian's SS/AMX in the 9-teens. AH Adkins runs about the same but in SS/B. The 8's are a real possibility for a SS/B AMX. Now aren't you glad you asked? ![]()

Yes, I am and thanks for the info. I always liked these cars because they always seemed to be the underdog compared to all the big motor cars in the surrounding classes.....got this underdog complex thing. Jim R
