is a Mallory unilite usable on a real race car? assuming that it is wired correctly, is there a potential trouble point? will it trigger an MSD 7AL?
thanks rod |

It will work with MSD. I ran one back in the early 90s. Make sure the Mallory has been updated. The small cap, original design had a tab that would break and allow the distributor weights to swing way out and rub the housing, and, thus, be way advanced.
You would prob be happier with a MSD distr in that it is virtually zero maintenance. |

I ran a Unilite as well for years on my Olds stocker with an MSD 6T ignition and never had a problem. I was told to carry a spare Unilite module by a couple of people and did so for years, but have yet to use it. I have since transplanted that distributor to my street car with a MSD 6AL.

Yep, I ran one up until this year. Had to weld the advance up and removed all the unneeded items. (but, it appears you want the advance?)The wires dont match up to the MSD, but, it doesnt matter. Just set the timing as normal.
BUT, if you want a better deal for less money, call ICE Ignition. It costs less money, makes more power and torque AND weighs less. Wade O |
