Default Well, guess no one wants "easy money"

3 Stockers and 2 Super Stockers at the IHRA national event in Salt Lake City. Win 1 round (or just show up in SS), make thousands of dollars, get on TV, and get in a free entry $10K to win (+ contingency) race.

What's up, west coast racers?

Just think, one of the two super stockers could be the 2010 "national champion" by winning that race and one more! What's that a total of about 8 rounds w/ one round as a qualifier to the "Tournament of Champions".

Unreal. I am not well versed with this event, is it usually a low count?

I agree that it would be nice to run for the money, but look at the entries at the Division V race. Of the 19 SS'ers, only 1 is from out West (Henderson NV). Of the 36 Stockers, a few are from West of Denver (Grand Junction CO and DurangoCO) but they're still alot closer to Denver than they are to Salt Lake City.

For most of the non-Coloradans at Bandimere it is already a 500 to 600 + mile drive to just get to Denver. Add another seven hours of driving to get to Salt Lake City.

So really, it isn't about most of the racers at the D-5 race chasing Points, it's just a matter of geographics. The question is, where is the support from the Division 6 & 7 racers for the IHRA Nats in Salt Lake? There were 44 of them at Fallon last week. Maybe some will be there tomorrow. But even if they all showed up, then it wouldn't be such easy pickin's to get the chance to TRAVEL 2000 + miles one-way (even if it's paid for) for the not so easy chance of winning $10,000. How many could plan that in vacation schedule?

Don't take me wrong here. I loved IHRA when they were out our way, and Thunder Valley is still a great little IHRA track. The IHRA races at Scribner were exceptionally well run, and I miss them. But IHRA abandoned us. We had pretty good car counts back then, and with our Midwest Stock/SS races having great success, we'd probably have a better turnout today.

IHRA made the mistake of not studying their demo-graphics when they put a points race way up in Minot ND. Other than 1 Superstock Racer in Minot, there was only one other Stock/SS car within a 300 mile radius of Minot, and maybe 8 within 500 miles. And then IHRA was aghast at the poor turnout. Well Duh!

So it's nice to dangle a carrot, but if it's not reachable for most, MOST will stay home.
