Looks like there is a 417 CID engine leading the Engine Masters competition in Ohio. Looks like the same manifold and throttle body as the Drag Pak. Might be a prototype.
Food for thought.

Jeff did you get your hands on any HP numbers? The ignition on that thing was pretty trick, its make you wonder if he doing any foreground work for a possible NA combo for NMCA Pro Stock of their Xtreme Street class.

No, Sid called and left a message to look it up at Popularhotrodding.com. I'm sure we will get the details next week.

Jeff
Its a done deal, the Mopar won it big time, and the same engine builer also had the #2 spot with a 400 CM carb motor. The "Stock" type 417 Hemi made over 700 hp with 11.5 compression and on 91 octane fuel. All pulls were made at 2500 rpm through 6500 rpm's. Pretty impressive for a 6.1 type motor. It was a very nice piece, when I checked the motor for legality, I was blown away, very trick stuff. This was also a hyd roller motor. Hats off to Tony Beshoff (BES engines), guy really knows his stuff and like I said he also finished 2d. I believe he won over $30,000.00 and he still gets to keep the motors. Don't worry about Sid, I'm taking care of him and putting him on a plane back home in the morning. Later RJ |

The 5.7, 6.1, etc motors are the last great pushrod motors.
With everyone going OHC, and whatever newer, better thing they can find, there may never be another new pushrod motor built that is anything like these sweet little babies.. David The New Hemi Guy |

I agree 100%. The LS GM motors took off out of the gate. That's to be expected as it's market driven. Chrysler always brings up the rear. But anyone who wasn't blinded by brand loyalty could see this coming.
