If this belongs in the open forum, it can be moved. I am curious if GM will make the 2011 Caprice police package available to the general public.
We have two of them in our shop for radio installation. Heavy duty everything! 6.0 rated at 355 hp and 384 pounds of tourque, 6 speed automatic, rear wheel drive. Certified to 141 mph, I would imagine computer governed to this speed. I think I am going to have to "test drive" one of them to see if the radios work properly when we are finished with the installs! The Crown Vics fly, I know that. I am suprised somebody has not asked for the Impala SS 5.3 303 hp to be added to the guide. Or maybe it has and nobody has built one. #5457 Curt Rees

It would be a fun car! I have a '96 LT 1 Caprice, it is not the C9 package, it is governed at 112. It will run the quarter in 15.50 at about 90 bone stock. 22 mpg at 75 all day long.

I heard the 2011 Caprice will be a municipal release only in the United States. Will be available to the general public in Austrailia.

One of our ASRA members works for GM's commercial div. and had one of these to take to law enforcement customers about 6-9 months ago. GM is currently ONLY selling them to police depts. He loved the car, and said that the Dodge's were their competition, but there was a lot of complaints about vision issues with the Dodges.

I have thought about doing the mod. Just have not got around to it.
Two of our finest stopped to look at the 2011 a couple of days ago. I let them drive the car, both were smiling like Chesire cat's when they brought it back! Let's say they were impressed! #5457 Curt Rees

OBD II mod?? You mean PCM calibration? I've never heard it called "OBD II mod", and I've been doing this since before OBD II. Only way to fix that MPH limit is to reflash the PCM with a new calibration.

We have 20 coming in now and 15 more next budget Curt and wait till you drive one. You will throw stones at the CV. I am amazed how well the CV held up the way they drive though. Not availiable to public yet... More expensive to build up vs the CV by about 5-6K. |

Curt,
I'm no engineer but in extensive research on YouTube and other viable sources of information, I understand that radio waves take on some type of parabolic curve which distorts the signal strength once the speeds get above 135 MPH. This is accentuated by large, flat hoods with more reflective tendancies as seen on V-8 powered vehicles. That's why the NASCAR racers have that "garbled" tone to them when talking to their pit crews. So any testing you do, for the sake of our communities, should be conclusive that there are no interruptions in radio frequencies by our police officers!
