I'm considering a new Wells Cargo 24' Auto Wagon trailer with 5000 lb. axles, 225-75-15 tires. Comments on that brand and the well known on-going tire issues are welcome. I don't see a 16" tire option for that trailer (AW2424)
http://wellscargo.com/wellscargo-tra...agon/overview/ I'm considering that trailer for its tube frame, Torflex axles, 3500 lb empty weight. It can be ordered with .040" aluminum skin, pressure treated wood, both passenger right side door and left escape door. I have been using an open trailer and it is time for "change." |

If you think a 24' will work....get a 28' and try to get 16" wheels on anything you do buy......just my .02

X2 on what Rick said. You could outgrow a 24 in a hurry. I know it costs more. You can get a 215/75-16 in a 10 ply, and not worry about it again. Ive had those for 3 yrs now, and very happy. I blew out one tire last yr., and it was from hitting something that came out from a truck in front of me.

X3 on what Rick said, I've heard that the worst 16" tire is better than the best 15" tire.............Getting new tires is always a hit but not as bad as changing tires on the side of the road. Look for a trailer that has 16", be it a 24' (you'll need more) or 28'.......that's my .02

If it has 6 lug hubs you can put 16" wheels on your 24' trailer as I did. If not you can change the hubs too.

Thanks for the replies. I was considering 22' but a friend said everyone who got one hated it from the first day. It is hard or impossible to maneuver long trailers at my house, and I "hope" not to have too much "stuff" to take with me.
The 16" option turns out to use 8 lug wheels and 235-80R16 tires. Tire mfg. seem to be the same sorry choices we have in 225-75-15 and while the 16" are rated for more weight, I doubt they are rated for more speed. Here in the west, distances are long and speed limits are 75, so going 65 would take forever to get anywhere. The 16" is spec'ed at 2.5" taller and that might help a little with higher road speeds. Is 8.5' width legal "everywhere" these days? I appreciate the help, spending 10K these days is traumatic. |
