Default CJ mustang engines

Can someone please provide a list of the different engines and the year in which they were installed, that were or are available for the CJ Mustangs? Especialy the engine in Charley Downings K/Stk Mustang. Did they offer a pushrod 428 in any of the new generation cars ?As I was looking at the entry list for the US Nationals, I saw different size engines entered in the same class. Thank you in advance!!

2008 CJ was just the 5.4 (330ci/425hp).

2010 CJ had the 4.6 (281ci/235hp), 5.4 (330ci/435hp), 352/285hp, 428/375hp.

2012 CJ 302/325hp, 5.4 (330/450hp) 5.4 (330/510hp)

Hope that helps. To have a 2010-12 body in white would give someone many engine options for years to come. The 2008 manual car is SS only now and the 2012 510hp is SS only.

Correct. I started to list all the different hp for all the different engines but then you have different hp's for stick vs auto blah, blah, blah. So I just listed what the factory rated hp's were. It should at least let him see what's offered in what year.

Quick rundown on the naturally asperated CJ engines:

2010 4.6L 3V NHRA rated at 232 hp (probably the biggest "ringer" of all the CJ engines)....it is a "paper -part number" combo.
The engine was never built by Ford. It is a combo of Ford Racing catalog parts. If I wanted to build a CJ...this would be the engine I would pick. 232 hp...what a joke !!

2010 428 CJ: It is a poked and stroked 351W with F.I.
This engine also never existed as a complete crate setup. It is also a "paper-part number" combo. (Same for the 358 CJ --it's a F.I. 351W )

2012 5.0 4V CJ : This engine is loosely based on the 2011-2012 Mustang GT Coyote engine....however the compression ratio is higher due to special pistons. The cam specs are different from any production Coyote 5.0.
Also, this engine was a bunch of part numbers put together. Ford does not build these Stock Eliminator engines.

I am not real familiar with the Supercharged CJ engines.

What kind of info do you want?
The 281ci CJ is 232hp in SS and the STK 281 ci CJ is 235 hp this week.
It's a great combo if you have $60,000 plus to spend on a I/SA,J/SA or K/SA stocker.

Tom only the SS is 232hp. Per the hp changes in July of 2011. The stocker is still at 235hp. NHRA has not changed it in there on line spec's.

Thumbs up Re: CJ mustang engines

Thank you for the link and information. Special thanks to 69 Cobra for serving our country!! Be safe and make that future stocker a reality!! Charley-I was at Stanton points meet and got a chance to look your car over. Beautiful car!! Was going to talk with you about car but you appeared busy so did not want to interupt. I'm 57 years old and attended first drag race at Martin 131 dragway in 1964 and saw Dyno Don Nicholson's 427 Comet race the Melrose Missle. I was hooked at 10 years old!! I tried running a 428 cj in the mid 70's on a true shoestring budget , it did not turn out good. So went bracket racing. As I am approaching retirement and my wife is disabled from a car crash, I will never be able to go racing again. I LOVE sportsman racing and my day at Stanton or the US Nationals is my once a year fix. I get to live racing through reading this forum and enjoy learning about the cars and owners. You are right Charley -- if I had $60k to go racing I would be there in a heartbeat but I don't so asking questions and learning about all the new high tech stuff keeps me involved. I woull like to say Thank You to Ford and Dodge for breating new life into this sport!! That 427 Comet from 64 was no different than todays CJ's and it got my dad excited enough to take me to the races--Thank you dad!!
