Default AMC 66-72 optional specs removed

I received this info yesterday from NHRA....

"AMC 66-72 removed optional cam, carb, and intake as they were a dealer option not a factory option."

For verification go to www.NHRARacer.com and check the Engine Specs and see that the optional carb, intake and camshaft has been removed effective 4/16/13. They are no longer on the engine spec sheet and will no longer be allowed in Stock or S/S.

Now if NHRA would only fix all the Ford FE stuff: crank, rods, carbs, cam, and intake.

This reminds me of the recent hemi head saga. You'd think NHRA would FULLY investigate a request, make a decision based on ALL the pertinent information, and then stick by it. Flopping back and forth on an issue does nothing for their credibility and costs racers money for no reason.

The only guys to benefit from this one were the guys on eBay that were selling those old AMC/Edelbrock intakes, for a while the value of their junk soared!

Who do you suppose was jealous enough to focus on the AMC? Only one or two in the country. To quote famous Tech men, "Its all dial in anyway". Anyone know if the bogus specs on 400 chevy changed yet? Any one know if the HP of the 71 Vette has been reduced to correlate with losing the Cold Air hood yet? Answers probably all NO. Just a case of attention to detail of ONE point, not in general. Maybe political...even if was reasonable by itself, So are the others...

I am glad I did not buy the Hornet I was looking at. To bad NHRA changed the rules, it would have been a fun car. Dyno

The only reason that stuff got approved to start with is that the person approving it didn't have a clue.

Good for NHRA, the group 19 parts never should have been included in S/SS. I didn't check to see if they removed the reference to flat top pistons for the 360, they were another bogus item.
Now that NHRA his come down heavy on those of us in the minority, hopefully they correct some of the issues affecting the majority.

This has been going on for 5-6 years, The first time i saw a 1969 AMX 290 CI with a 780 Holley carb in Super Stock I knew that was not correct. Also the HP on the 290-390 engines have been reduced by a whopping 20 hp. I also know that the 68-69 combos had AFB carb and the others I think were motorcraft. Many years ago when I raced a 69 390 AMX it ran ok with a AFB but it would fly with a 780 Holley.

This whole thing is really disheartening. I do not own a completed Stocker or have I ever raced one. I have accumulated about everything I need to complete my SC360. The car is @ the chassis shop, & all major parts have been purchased even the overpriced R4B intake.

I guess I'm upset @ the fact that the sanctioning body would approve something without documentation then revoke it when they are shown documentation otherwise. How could they approve it in the first place? Yes the parts would benefit the combo but other than what I have out for those parts I really don't care if we had them or not. My car won't slow down after taking them off because it is not together.

I will continue to build the car & try to recoup some of the money I paid for the legal/illegal parts. It doesn't change the fact of what happened. What will be the next thing I buy that I can't send back?
