Default Pure Stock Challange - Ohio May 2014

Been talking to Mike Beard about a Pure Stock Challenge next May in Columbus Ohio.
There is already a major IHRA Sportsman race scheduled for that day.
It is fairly central to a lot of states and daring opportunity for the long haulers.

The plan is to have a Class Elimination Run Offs
There are 9 Pure Stock Classes.
My company is willing put some skin in the game.

Mike was telling me there maybe a huge U/SA Challenge as well.
Seems to be a very popular class of cars competing which would be very cool.

So would like feedback and anyone wanting to add to the pot.

Here is my pledge, since there are 9 Pure Stock classes.
My company will donate $900 purse money for a $75/$25 Win/RUP Money.
Not a lot but a $100 for each Class. More would help.

Then Mike suggested maybe having a Pure Stock only race-off of all the Pure Stock Classes.
So if anyone wanted to donate some money to bring up the Purse winnings.
Here is an opportunity help bring in more entries.

In fact this would be a cool opportunity for all the Sportsman Classes.
Sponsors for each class.

Another thought, combine all the independent S/SS Series with representatives pitting each Series against each other for S/SS World Champion bragging rights. Each Series tossing in some money for a pot.

The objective is to create the biggest and best multi-opportunity Sportsman Challenge race ever in drag racing. Plus the POINTS MEET.

Which means pledging donations from all kinds of organizations and individuals to increase the Purses and excitement.

Hell video tape put it on TV taking a few sessions away from Pinks All Out.

Your 2 cents is appreciated.

The Northern Class Nationals is not "an IHRA Sportsman race". It is an independent Stock and Super Stock national event in which both NHRA and IHRA classes are welcome. It will be contested at an NHRA facility, National Trail Raceway in Hebron, OH, just east of Columbus, May 2-4, 2014.

Thanks for your commitment, Dan!

Class Eliminations for *all* Stock and Super Stock classes will take place on Friday, May 2, 2014. There will be high quality "Iron Tree" trophies for all Class winners. Following Class Eliminations, we will be running a pair of Quick 32 CIC races, one for Stock and one for Super Stock. Saturday will feature more qualifying, a $3K-to-win S/SS Combo, and Racer Appreciation Party, and then on Sunday, a $5K Stock Eliminator and $5K Super Stock Eliminator. We will have tech, scales, fuel check, and heads-up runs if applicable, as with any normal Divisional or National event.

Jack McCarthy and Terry Bell have already offered up money for a U/SA shootout. Other sponsors are welcome for this or any other class(es) (just like the A/S shootout that was put together at Indy last year). We'll publish it on the flyer, and all awards go right to the racers.

This was discussed on the Class Nationals event planning thread, and is something we have decided not to get into this first year. There's a tremendous amount of planning and complexity to the event, and we want to make sure that our first one goes as smoothly as possible. We'll consider additions/deletions/adjustments to the program for the following year once we get this one under our belt.

We have already announced that we have contracted Mark Walter from DragStory.com and MotorManiaTV.com to provide fully produced 4-camera Live streaming video coverage of the event. We will have the ability to display banner ads on the Live webpage as well as cut in TV commercials from the higher level sponsors if provided.

You can keep up with all the announcements regarding the event on the original thread at: http://classracer.com/classforum/showthread.php?t=44467

I would like to be the 2nd person to thank Dan for the commitment to put up money for the PS class payouts.

Sounds like a great idea.
There's no way I could win the I/PS class, but it would be cool to enter.
Heck, I still have the stock 1995 torque convertor in the car.

IMO, the Pure Stock class is the essence of entry level class racing. Very restricted rules and few options available makes the challenge even more fun.

Now....if I could only figure out how to get 2 cars to the event...

Glad to see interest in pure stock, I would be interested in some sponsorship for P/S runoffs. Lloyd Riley RCE machine works.

Good point but Neither is STOCK ---STOCK

STOCK today is more like SS without the monster cam and porting!!

My car has a Bullet Cam specs out legal using Stock Valve Springs.
BUT drive the car to the track and get 20mpg.

Can you do that with your Stocker ??

IHRA Pure Stock rules have been largely unchanged for many years.

Aftermarket camshafts are permitted, but "must check on or under factory specs for lift, duration, and overlap." Transmissions must be stock, unaltered, except for shift kit. Aftermarket converters are allowed.

IHRA Rulebook is available online, see Pure Stock on page 47-48: http://www.mydigitalpublication.com/...tion/?i=136499

donc - thanks for your support! Will send you a PM.

NHRA had pure stock before IHRA existed. They were pure stock. Didn't last long. No much participation then either.

Dan, I don't have a stocker. Have no desire to drive what I do have on the street.

It used to be a nine second NA street car that still got close to 20 mpg. :-)

How many tech guys really know HOW to check duration and overlap......LOL. Not only that but the tech specs on most newer cars do NOT even list duration and overlap specs or valve spring pressures.
