Posted item in the classified section of class racer, and got a bite before I finished my coffee. Area code 347 {New York} Message only no phone call. Over the next few hours received several messages from interested party, stating they wanted the item. refused to call in person, only messages [said they worked on a rig and couldn't make phone calls] I tried to ask him a few questions to be sure I had what he wanted, and it became apparent he had no idea what he was talking about, but wanted it full price, no questions, except he asked if I was a paypal user. BEWARE!!! this is a definite scam, I received another message [after I left him a message he may or may not have understood..LOL] stating he would send somebody to pick it up after we complete the "deal"

I had a guy call me on a car. After about 20 text messages, He had to have the car right Now. I asked where he was. He said Rhode Island. My reply was How are you gonna get the car RIGHT NOW if you are 800 miles away. That stopped the messages

Had a similar issue that I posted here about a month or so ago. Would like to see these people rounded up and put in jail. The person would not give any of his info, but wanted all mine. Then he would send his agent to pick the item up when the shipping was included in the price. You have got to be kidding me!

If you use Craigslist you get these responses all the time. If you are suspicious of a reply just reply "Call 401-xxx-xxxx". These scammers will never call - real interested buyers will call and you can confirm their identy. Most of the scams are obvious and the proper response is DELETE!

^^ I've never had any weird (scammer) calls (so far) while posting on CL.
I will however sort of disguise my phone # so spam bots won't automatically put my number on their "potential victim" list. They have software that can spot a 10 digit phone #. Instead of numbers only I might use words for some of those digits instead. To the O.P.: I wonder if that is what happened to you ?? Some automatic number detecter picked up on the number you posted ?

I had one text me about my car. It was a south LA (houma) area code and he wanted to pay full price and have his agent pick it up. Said he worked offshore and couldn't pick it up in person. When I told him that I would meet him at No Problem so that he could see the car run, at his convenience, the text messages stopped.
