Thank God this happened in the pits and no one was around.
How many have seen this before?

Never seen them completely break before. Crazy!!!!
I've seen them with long cracks in the same area as where that one came apart. The ones I've seen were leaking air really bad. Both were the Force 5 style of front wheel on two different cars. |

One would think those pictures would get you a new set of wheels at the least from Bogart.

Rich Bogart is probably one of the most supportive manufacturer's out there and he will always go out of his way to help a racer that uses his products. |

Ten years ago racing at a Divisional race in Atlanta I had a front Monoqoque apparently crack and the tire went completly flat before I was able to get the car stopped. During that run the car ran 134 mph, I was lucky the car didn't crash.

For the record:
We just had the wheels off the car ( 2 minutes before this happened!) We cleaned & inspected them when checking the brakes. We had no air leak. No shake or indication that the wheel was going to fail. The crack was hidden under the silicone that was over the weld. I'm not looking for justification on this. I'm just thankful no one was hurt. I just thought people should know about this. THE WHEELS DO TAKE A POUNDING! Please take a look at your wheels. It just might save your life.

Would anyone consider vintage Cragar S/S or Keystone Klassics safe to run today?

Likely so...those were heavy/thick wheels intended for street use.
