Probably a left over from Modified Eliminator. Some of those classes required a car that was 67 or newer. There were a lot more of the 66 Chevy II's built than 67 Chevy II's. It used to be part of the dance to see tech inspectors try to find and toss people running a 66 as a 67 in a class that required a 67.

If i rember correctly the tech guy would raise the hood and check the master cylinder. There was a difference between
66-67 units. But after all these years in could be wrong. |

I suppose you mean a "non tech inspection scenario". In Super Stock, no such class exists. Every class has its rules, and every car is inspected on the basis of the rules of the class in which it is entered.
