This time of year I get a lot of calls from guys looking at a data recorder for the first time and they have a lot of questions on the V-net concept.
Essentially, it's a network which allows a single cable to go from the engine bay to the recorder. Some data systems require wires from every sensor to go all the way back to the logger. Pro Stock cars have 20-30 sensors on them (even more when testing). A typical layout below: ![]() Key points: - The cable running from the recorder to the first sensor is typically 9' long if the recorder is mounted behind the passenger seat. - The wires from the V-net module to the sensor plug are 48" for pressures and 72" for Temperatures. - Although not recommended, those cables can be shortened/lengthened. - There is a bulkhead connector available to go thru the fire wall. - Racers tend to say "I need a oil pressure sensor" and they mean a V-net module + the physical sensor. - To add a sensor pop off the cap and snap the next V-net module on. - Keep data logger wires away from plug/coil wires and the coil primary wires (MSD Orange/Black going from the 7AL to the coil) Post up any questions you may have. Yes Bob - that's exactly how you pick up tach signal from any of the MSD boxes. |

Should have been more specific---------- The existing Autometer tach is on the same wire as the Racepak is that OK?

I would like to upgrade to a system like this. Do you ever have any factory reconditioned units available for a reduced price. A new one is not in the budget right now. What is best for a super stock car? Carbureted combo.
