Default Cherryville Flash R/SA full-sized Chevy wagon in D6?

I think it was driven by Robbie Robinson, who purchased the Stark Street Pizza Company located at 9234 Stark Street in Portland Oregon in about 1982 (I think it was called the "Pizza Baron" before that). Great guy.

I loved watching that car. Anybody got any pics or info?

I am sure Charles Norton can fill in the blanks. Rob Robinson ,the owner of Stark Street Pizza is a member of the Softball Hall of Fame.....

Wow! Haven't been called "Charles" for quite a while. Kind of a shock to the system.

Robbie's car was originally a part of Jerry McClanahan's national event winning World Championship stable. It won even more races under Robbie's guidance but it has eventually found its way back to Southern California. I think that former Division 7 Champ, John Melvin, may have owned it at one time, John Nickel and Vic Hobbs drove it and I understand that Jerry's son, Brian McClanahan, now has possession of the wagon. Rumor has it that it's undergoing a complete restoration. Car has seen a LOT of win lights!

Nickel or Vic sold it to Ryan Smith, who then sold it to Brian , I believe. So it was over here for a while...In fact, I believe it still is, getting the resto.

It was a '66, with a 283 and a 'glide, if memory serves. Either white or off-white paint.

Looking forward to seeing it's restoration...

If it was white at sometime it sure wasn't washed much. Cause it was light brown when Nichols drove it

If memory serves me I believe John Melvin bought Robs 68 BB Chevelle around 1990 called "heavy hitter",he was trying to sell it on here a few years back.Chuck Porter ran the R/SA 283 wagon from around 80 to 87 or so. gsa612

Hi Chuck - Yup you nailed it. When is the history book you're writing going to be released?

I met up with Robbie a few times when he had the wagon, but then he started running the Chevelle and I lost track of the wagon. It was a good car, no doubt about it.

Was it not that car and his ramp truck that got stolen and ended up back east somewhere? I remember him telling me a story about it and how it was eventually recovered. Don't quote me I'm not 100% sure.

Cal M. taught me everything I ever knew on the 220/283. I have always been deeply grateful for all his help and friendship. He had the 66-R/SA wagon. 66-Q/SA 4dr Caprice, and P/SA 66 Chevelle - all 220/283.

Cal Queapama also ran a wagon of course. He was a good guy and great competitor. We had some good visits.

I bought my Wagon in '76 I think. Took to Cal's (Method) in the spring of '78 and he went through it and made me look good from then on. lol I don't ever recall getting around Cal heads up - he always seemed to have a nickel on me. lol

A year or two later Cal and I both added the third seat so we could run R or T/SA. It worked good so we could stay out each others way when we were at the same races.

A little bit useless trivia for you.

Cheers

Chuck P

Chuck Porter, my memory isn't much at this stage but I recalled the stolen car episode as involving a Collector's Edition Corvette?

A couple of points you made in your post really stand out. One was that Robbie is one of the true "nice guys" that i've met in the sport and another was that he had some really cool cars. Of course, Robbie, himself, has always been such a cool individual that no matter what he drove, Comp cars, Corvettes, Chevelles, or '66 Impala wagons, he made any of them look cool!

Another valid point that you raised was that Cal Method has always been able to wring the last ounce of performance out whatever he took to the track! He is a standout racer in a field that is full of icons and he's still doing it!

Good to see your name on the page.

Amen to that. Practice wife #1 and I managed a little 16-unit apartment complex across the street from his restaurant, and we were regular customers there. He was always a great guy to us. I still go there when I fly to Portland.
