Default "Which car fits in this class??"

Hello all!

Has anyone ever sat down and made a list of all the combos that fit into say A/SA or C/S?? I just mean natural classes too I realize everything technically fits into 3 classes... What I'm asking if it isn't super clear is have you ever sat down and wondered "I want to build a B/SA car... What are all my options?" Without spending hours going through the book of every year of every model it would be nice to have a resource that would tell me that I can go out tomorrow and find XXXX car and put it together for B/SA..

Is this already out there?? Has anyone done it and not made it public? Maybe it's on classracerinfo.com and I'm missing it..

Thanks
Brad

I can do that with the database on ClassRacerInfo.com You also have to allow for the ability to move up one class or down one class.

I agree you'd have to account for this, but I figured if someone had taken the time to put this together we could all assume that If we search B/SA the cars would fit A-C/SA so if I truly wanted to know all the class cars that would fit B I would look at A B and C. Thought it might save some time.

If it's a fairly easy addition to Classraceinfo.com that'd be awesome! You may have an easier way to account for the 3 classes each car fit in too being a database...

Maybe I'm the only one interested in this, but it was just a thought that ran through my mind today.. would be cool to have filters for year range and brands too. Don't want to get to specific or picky.. just having a place to search by specific class would be totally enough!! Thanks for considering!

I no expert, but if you don't care what brand you run, I'd say the best way is to look at the cars that are running the class you have in mind, at the big races.

At the big races where they run class, DRC usually lists all the cars in every class that has more than 1 car in it, in the order of how quick they went in qualifying.

The US Nats is a good place to look, since they allow more Stockers than at most other races.

Here's last year's class Q-list, at Indy. Should give you some choices.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2017#indextop

There are obviously other car/engine combos that will fit in many of the classes. But, the most popular and softest combos will usually show up at Indy.

If you're a Chevy guy & wanna run A or B, with a carb, there are several big block combos that will work. There are also several of the Mopar big engine combos that can run the upper classes. I know VERY little about any of the later model FI combos. But, I'm sure there are guys here who can tell you the most competitive combos for any class you can name. Some cars will fit a class, but for one or more reasons is not competitive, at all.

If you wanna build a competitive low budget combo, I think Billy Nees here knows most of the best combos for that purpose.

If none of this info is helpful, just ignore it. Hey, I'm just a has been that never was much.

It's not that this isn't helpful info or a great suggestion.. Just not a way to find out some of the cars that maybe nobody runs in say G/SA.. I guess where I'm coming from is say I have an Idea I want to run a Ford in D/SA. I can and will if I'm absolutely determined to run it.. click through each year and see which combos fit.. Wouldn't it be cool if there was a list of all possible D/SA combos currently in the book and I could just quickly see which Ford models, trim packages, and engine combos would get me there?

This might come across as being lazy or not working hard enough.. fair. But with the computer technology these days I figured someone may have already done this.

This is a great idea! Would be a welcome addition to Classracerinfo.com, which is already invaluable.

I agree, Classracerinfo.com, is invaluable. I do find myself wishing for different ways to search. As someone with more than an affinity for Pontiacs, it would be nice to be able to search just by brand.

Thumbs up Re: "Which car fits in this class??"

I haven't raced a stick car since my very first year in drag racing over 4 decades ago, but one car I haven't seen in years, that I'd love to race in B/S is Steve McFarlands '69 Mustang that ran in both B & C/S. Why I also loved that car is I have a video from D2 at the '96 Fram/Autolite Nationals in Commerce, Ga., that showed his car taking off from the line, and suddenly darting to the right towards the Christmas Tree. However, without delaying his shift points, Steve just as quickly not only got that car heading down the strip, but just as quickly as he did that, he was going into 2nd gear, then shortly before the 330 mark he was in 3rd, and then 4th by around the 450ft mark. He pulled up alongside his (I believe 2nd round opponent), in a Camaro got a nose on that car, and rode it to the stripe to take the stripe and the win! His car made it to the semi's where he unfortunately lost to a '65 Impala with a 327 and also a 4spd, that went on to lose the final to Scotty Richardson, and his then '68 Camaro!

Next to the 2010 A/S Indy final, that was my second favorite race and car to watch!

Yeah, I'm an old school Pontiac freek. I've really enjoyed using the Class Racer Info site to check out different 1981 & older Pontiac combos. It's pretty easy to see why some of the popular Pontiac models would not be competitive at all. Also, pretty easy to see why some of the most poplar Pontiac combos raced today are competitive.

It's interesting to me to see how just one or 2 guys running a particular combo have caused the hp factor to increase to a point where once competitive combos are no longer competitive, or at least not nearly as competitive as they once were, for the average racer.
