Default Real A990 Coronet at Barrett-Jackson

A Real A990 Coronet at Barrett-Jackson sold Saturday for $68,000. Sounds pretty cheap.

I saw a 63 Dodge lightweight Max Wedge go for something like $50,000 which was lower than what I would have thought.

A 64 Dodge sold right behind it but I did not get any details or the final price.

I stayed up to date on both the latest Mecum at Kissimmee and the Barrett-Jackson auctions. I noticed the restored factory racecars and high performance cars were more numerous and brought more money at Mecum. Barrett-Jackson on the other hand seemed to have more resto mod versions of the same style cars and brought high selling prices for those type cars.

I couldn't help but think as that nice black 61 bubbletop 409 went across that the guy could have got more with an LS swapped in and 20" wheels.

And if you ever nagged on a friend for trading in his Superbird plus cash to buy a new Blazer or Bronco in the mid 70's... well he gets the last laugh.

Yes what was it, three or four years ago if anything was modified on a car it would kill the price.

Now a well modernized car is what brings top dollar at least at this auction.

Light weight MoPars are selling for a fraction of what they brought 10-15 years ago.

I just don`t get it, When an Elenore, which is a fictional Shelby Mustang recreation of a recreation of a fictional movie brings more money than what THREE real Shelby Mustangs go for, the world is out of wack. And when two aluminum nose Max Wedge MoPars can`t get 1/2 as much as a Volkswagen Van does, I just shake my head.

The day of super high dollar 60's big ole B-Body performance cars seems to be over. I think the age of those interested in them has risen to the point where concerns over retirement cost may well be more important than having a neat old car around to maintain. Yeah, there may be some rich guys around that cherish them enough to lay down good money. But, it looks like they are getting fewer and further apart all the time.
Solid race cars MAY be a little different.
