Looking for a good transmission rebuilder near Bowling Green Ky. Ive broken my turbo 400 5 times in the last 3 years. Need some one that can get me more than 30-50 runs between rebuilds. 496" pump gas, 67 Camaro, 3700 lbs, runs low 10's 128 mph. Sick of pulling tranny out seems like every 6 or 7 races. Never had an issue when Sepanick did my work. But he is now 11 hours away. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thomas Arnett. Or, if you want to come south, I'm in Murfreesboro. Been in the business since 1985. What's breaking? Or burning up.

Well, it's been several different things. I've broken second gear, gear set, first gear, gear set, 34 element sprague, (replaced with 36 element sprague and drum). Trans brake valve continues to stick in the housing. Had to use pliers to remove, and re-install the valve at Beechbend this weekend, so I believe the case must have some issues where the valve rides. Now the car will only go forward. When I put it in reverse, the car does not move, until I give it a considerable amount of throttle, then it snaps and releases continually while in reverse. When I put it in first gear it rolls forward about 3 feet, then slows down all on it's own, until I give it more throttle. When I jacked the car up and removed the drive shaft from the rear end, keeping it in the transmission, the drive shaft will rotate in the forward direction, but will not rotate in the rearward direction while the transmission is any gear other than park. And I just want to clarify that this is with the engine not running. The rear end rotates forward and rearward with the drive shaft removed, so the problem is not the rear end.

Think I'd start looking for another donor case. Too much carnage and trouble. Your valve body may be suspect also.

Well, I just dropped it off at my tranny guy. We'll wait and see what he says is the problem this time. Probably gonna find another place to deal with, or maybe switch to a power glide. But I don't want to loose my 2-3 foot wheel stands, and I probably will with a glide. I was told Arnett is great with Stock and Super Stock stuff, but I run bracket races on a weekly basis and some Super Street events, so I put a lot more runs on the car than a Stock/Super Stock between rebuilds.

Obviously you have some problems...
But to throw shade at Stock and Super Stock trans builders will not get you much help. I guess you put over 300 runs on a tranny in a season. Oh well🙄 |
