Got a notice from Pacific Raceways stating that the 2021 NorthWest Nationals will not happen. NHRA was asking for a guarantee that the track would be open at full capacity and they could not assure this, The County is doing well and spectators are allowed back at the track in limited numbers. We might be fully open by the end of July, but no one knows. NHRA put the track in a bind by asking for a commitment without a permit in hand and I think the track managers did the right thing.
NASCAR has done a good job surviving COVID by keeping the sport out there with limited to no spectators. Now that folks are getting the shot and cases are down States are opening up and people are coming back. NHRA seems to be taking an all or nothing stand and non racers might just not be there next year. Selling Atlanta is another thing. NHRA gets a good return on their investment but the racers permently loose a track. My bracket car ia in need of a set of valves and it ticks me off to sit on the sidelines for two weeks. i can't imagine having a S/SS car with no race to go to at all.
