Are we talking about SBC? Newer style engines I've seen w'powdered gears haven't had gear problems I've seen or heard of, powdered gear pumps I know of mount to front engine with crank turning them they don't have thrust against them,i.e. SBC,BBC (weight of gears against housing)If a pump has powdered gears they still usaully out last the housing there in cast iron or alum. New engines LS's LT-1's,Mod Motor Fords have powered metal connecting rods, timing gears,LS's rockers,I've seen transmission/rearend yokes, oil pump gears,Transmission pump gears are some parts that are powdered metal.I can think of right off top of my head.Call melling 517-787-8172 I think most melling select have steel gears they'll tell you for sure.

What ever you do dont use any AC Delco oil filters. I had several colapse due to the internals being made from plastic. It cost me 2 blown engines before I figured out what was happening. I am going to try a System One filter.

Wix race versions are good never had failure over 10 years. Had filters collapse other brands pressure drops to about half @idle rev goes lower change filter it's collapsed.

A buddy drove his top sportsman car into the wall b/c of an A/c Delco oil filter. Blew the cannister off and put oil under his left rear tire and drove him into the back of the car in the left lane and into the left wall. He was in the right lane.
