Thumbs up KY boys kick butt

How about all the Kentucky boys winning this weekend and I'll include Dave in this mix since he just lives across the river in Indiana. Jerry Bennett stock winner in Memphis, Dave Walther stock winner in Indy, Matt Morris super stock winner in Indy, and Chuck Bohannon super stock r.u. in Indy. Great job guys.

You need to add Mike Stokes from Hopkinsville, KY to that list. He won Super Stock at Memphis.
Congrats to all you guys!

What a great start for the 2009 Div 3 LODRS season! Beautiful weather, although a little breezy, made for a fantastic weekend of NHRA Sportsman racing.

Stock had 102 cars on the ladder while S/S had 91. Not bad considering some of the southern cars that usually come to the Indy season opener went to the LODRS meet at Memphis. And oh yes the let’s not forget the bad economy.

Stock saw the #1 qualifier Marty Buth in his Q/SA T-Bird run 1.47 under and of course pass a mandatory teardown. Rene Garza led the S/S qualifying with his SS/PA ’55 Chevy. One of the S/S highlights was the 8.78 record set by Paul Adams in his ’64 Thunderbolt running SS/A.

Since I do fuel check in Div 3, I have the pleasure of seeing the smiling faces of the Stock and S/S winners as they come off the scales after the final round. This weekend was especially gratifying since I got to congratulate local racers from my hometown Louisville area.

Congrats to Mike also. I would also like to echo what Tavis said about the weekend. Great weather, a friendly and helpful d3 crew and a lot of good firends. And plenty of cold beer.

The Kentucky guys did real well. Stokes did very well especially considereing the tree screw up. That was a real circus. Jerry Bennett can not only make a car that was designed ugly, to be beautiful, but it runs great and obviously he can drive even better. Yall were so good; I will send some fluid to make your toes web-footed so yall can be Cajuns. Nice going.

FYI

Just a tidbit of info...At the recently completed Indy LODRS, Stock was the largest class with 102 cars followed by S/S with 91 cars on their respective ladders. Looks like class racing starts the season alive and well in Div 3.

Those classes would of had more cars if Memphis and Indy weren't the same weekend.
