My 2000 chevy truck has a change oil massage come up when you first start it... how do I clear it? I changed oil about 1500 miles ago.

Greg,
Try putting the key in the on position and pump the gas pedal three times quick.. Remember the truck is not running... This will reset the oil change unit light ... I think ??? It did on all my suburbans... LOL ,, Hope you keep that Olds....... Dave,

Three pumps seems to do the job for me on most of the GM models we service to reset it. One other note concerning the oil service life indicator and other lights on your GM vehicle when equipt with onstar. If you have Onstar it monitors your vehicle and will send you a email when you need a oil change as well as other servicing needed lights or check engine lights. The bad part of this is GM knows exactly how long any light has been on via onstar and some bad dealers are trying to use this as yet another way to deny warranty claims. One of my good customers is fighting GM over this right now because his DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) has gone bad and while he did change his oil as recomended he did not always reset his engine oil service message, so they are blaming it on not changing the oil properly and trying to deny the claim and so far it is working for them.

Three slow pumps of the pedal works on most GM and Chrysler products. ........Change interval is no longer dictated by mileage alone. ....The PCM now can now tell you to change oil based on driving habits, engine temp, running hours, and mileage.[big brother is watching]........This drove some of my customers crazy when Chrysler first started doing it, some cars were showing the light at 1000 to 1500 miles! .........Some of the Chrysler cars had a PCM flash that corrected the problem. ........Tom

Tom,
I noticed my '05 chevy truck started having longer change intervals when I switched to Valvoline synthetic @ around 45,000 miles. I had been using what ever brand the local oil changer used. Now I do the change myself. I just guessed the computer figured out the oil lasted longer. Mileage did increase, too.
