Default Instant Dragstrip

Watching cnbc this a.m. and there's been a continuing segment about
Moffett Naval Air Station @ Mountain View, Ca. and how it's been used recently only as Private Aircraft Parking for the dudes that own Google.

This story goes something like this... NASA (who runs the place) needs an influx of new cash to keep it open.

So I suggest that NHRA get on the ball and start some sort of weekend / sportsman program there a.s.a.p.

It could be a reincarnation of Half Moon Bay or Fremont.

Anybody from this area that has also thought of this... please chime in.

I'm pretty sure they're looking for a bit more cash than could be generated by a dragstrip.

Well it is closer to a shovel ready project than anything Obama could put together.

I wasn't suggesting that this endeavor would support the whole facility!

But it might give local racers and a nhra a place to go that hasn't been explored before!!!

Amen to that!

**If that's what it takes to get this done, then give him credit for it.... it would be his greatest achievement to date

IHRA, NHRA, either would be Great!

Start by adding local constituent numbers, people that pursue their hobbies in any of the following like...

the scca pylon guys,

the go-kart guys,

the Street Rod bunch like the Good Guys out of Pleasanton (Car Shows & Vintage Drag Racing) and

Roy Brizio's Shop is real close by.

Also, this is Silicon Valley, where Car Guys have real money and political clout, because of who they are and who they know.

Now take in a 100-200 mile radius of this South Bay point, and I'm sure there are many, many others who would be interested in seeing
something @ Moffett Field happen.

I really believe there is an opportunity here for some local person/s or group to pursue.

If you just sit back and say "It won't ever happen", then for sure that's what you'll get.

Just My Opinion.

With twin runways that are three miles long each, they could have a few land-speed events, much like the Maxton Mile in North Carolina, also situated on an old military airfield. They have no barriers, just a wire & post fence to direct people away from the track, and a wooden timing tower that looks like a garden shed on stilts. No grandstands either.

The article also mentions wind tunnels. Wind tunnels and land speed racing go hand in hand- wonder if it would be practical to have a tunnel day for racers- for a fee, of course, sort like when a group of racers rent a dragstrip for testing.

A short term lease will help cash flow while the NASA figures out what to do with it. SCTA could sanction it, the promoter would not need to spend much money for improvements, so the short term lease is not a problem from the tenant point of view either.
