I had a nice black and silver 83 Silverado stolen in 91. In 94 a Austin auto theft cop was making his rounds to the salvage yards and walked by a P/U and just glanced at the VIN# in the windshield and noticed the non factory VIN# tag "pop rivits". He checked the other VIN#'s on the truck and it was identified as my truck. They arrested the driver and went to his home and arrested several of his brothers where they found a half dozen other stolen trucks. They were all deported back to Mexico with little time served and most likely are back in the states again. The Austin police used the truck for a class to illustrate how to spot and identify stolen vehicles. But while it was in the police compound it had two tires stolen off it as well as the A/C unit, battery, radio, and air cleaner. But it now had a fancy blue fade paint job and 47,000 additional miles on the fresh rebuild just before it was stolen. Just my story on the round pop rivits.

Did you get the truck back after the police were done with it.

Yes I got it back. I had to pay my insurance a salvage fee since they had paid me when it was stolen. My son and a friend went to get it for me and took a battery and tires off someone else's truck in the police compound so they could drive it home. By the time I replaced all the things taken off of it while the police had it I only made 2 or 3 hundred dollars reselling it. I thought I would like to have it back when they first found it but it was changed too much for my liking. The thief just chose the wrong time to go to the salvage yard for a new brake rotor for my old truck.

That car is still worth a ton more than $13K regardless of everything being mismatched. It wouldn't matter if it had no cowl tag, SS emblems on the grill, z28 emblems on the fender, 632 inch cowl induction hood numbers and vinyl Yenko seat covers that fit a Dodge Neon with a Ford 6cyl installed.

The body condition alone and as a roller is worth $15K-18K. If it's for sale for 13K then I'm buying it.

I have to admit the headline to this post took me back a bit, as it was on Wednesday, January 10th 1975, when my '69 Z-28 was stolen from my workplace. It was found 7 months later, with a bunch of other vehicles all stripped and scattered to parts unknown.I had already settled with my insurance company by then, and at 22 wasn't wise in the ways about buying a car back, so I missed on that opportunity.
I'm glad that Jack got his '69 back after all these years,,,I never replaced mine,, or at least, I haven't yet.

We just said that yesterday only we were talking about all the Corvettes that ran in Modified in the late seventies/early eighties .There were a ton of 63-67's out there at that time.
