Wade,
I have been using The Rock 16v battery going on 4 years. They have one model that has a 12v post on it also. Very good stuff. The ones in my Camaro are in thier 4th season No problems.
Mark Payne at House of Payne does a 16v alternator for those of you that must run one that works real well.

Wade,

go over to DragRaceResults.com then the tech section. Then search for 16 volt battery. You will see a number of post on both sides of the issue.

Also you will see Chip and Myself giving positive feedback about 16 volt systems.

I think 16v could be the future, you can certainly feel the difference in the starter. I run either/or in the wagon but just 12v Optima in Brutus (so far).

The 16v Turbo Starts that I use are either great or not at all, I'm not sure if all 16v batteries are this way. With a 12v you have a shot of starting with an almost dead battery at the ticket booth. With a 16v, don't even bother. Needless to say, diligent between rounds charging is a must. I spent some time and money on a 16v charging system but I never quite got it right. Maybe I'll call House of Payne after I fix all the other stuff...

With a 12v system you can steal a battery out of the tow rig in a pinch.

I've been seeing more and more light, small batteries. I think the stealth fighter/late model military tech is starting to filter down to us bottom feeders. I bet that within the next five years we're going to have better batteries than we do now.

Bottom line:
16v is better but 12v is way easier.

Just my opinion from limited experience.

I run the 1200Amp cell, with 25A charger in my super stock. After a normal run it takes 15-20 minutes to completely recharge battery. Pretty nice not to have to run gengerator all day to charge anymore!

At only 9 lbs I can make 3 runs without charging and battery has still got more!

As I'm not concerned with weight.... have to run ballast, I've got 2 Powermaster 1000's. been running since 06. Can run all weekend and not charge batteries, doesn't drop below 16.2 volts. Bought their batteries and charger been very happy with both. Sure is nice to know it's gonna start every time no grunting, spins engine like there's no plugs in it. Joe

Thumbs up Re: 16v Battery Systems.....

I'm in my second season running 16v. Everything works better. When I start the car hot on the return road you don't even hear the starter crank, it comes to life immediately. Man, are the gauges brite at night. Cool down only takes a couple of minutes. I run Turbo Start's and got everything from East Coast Auto Electric. They were helpful and they are a sponsor. If anyone is interested I have a 42 lb Turbo Start for sale as I went to two 32 pounder's.

As all of you know I bracket race a lot. Last year July 4th weekend. Piedmont dragway had 2- 5 k on saturday and a 10 k on Sunday. I double entered my car:
1st race 5th rd and 6th rd
2nd race 5th rd and SF
3rd race SF and WIN.
In less than 30 hours I made 52 runs on my car.
On SUndays race the last 4 rounds I was going straight back to the lanes with no charge at all.
I run 2 Rock 16v and No alternator.

I would call Mark Payne and get the entire setup from him.Battery-Charger-and alternator.
Ask for the Legend discount.LOL
