Default Dime rocket followup - If I build one

OK, if we decide to pursue this 1994 Lincoln, some questions here. These newer cars are a brave new world to me. I know you can do the usual things, unhook things that aren't needed like the AC,air pumps and such. What else can I do? For NHRA stock, can I change things like MAF or MAPP sensors (forgive me I at present don't know what all this car has). What about fuel injectors, do they have to be stock or can these be changed out?

What about running these cars with open headers, do you need to weld bungs onto the downpipes for O2 sensors? Or can these be eliminated altogether? I know I'm going to need some kind of controler and a laptop, the computer I have, the controler we are already looking at.

I also know, if we can get thing to run competitively. I'll need some way to do a fuel check. How do I set this up? This is just a start.

Something else, I haven't been a member of NHRA since about 1989. What's it cost to join now, about $70 or so? I imagine a competition number is about the same?

Robert, save your money and your sanity by just putting down the keyboard and stepping back slowly.
Seriously, why would you throw your money down a rat hole with an unproven quantity at a time when the economy is so bad none of us may be racing in a few years.

Don't spend your $$$$$$$$$$$ on the NHRA stuff until you're sure it is a viable combination. Run T&T's to figure it out. Eddie may sound a little rough but he makes a good point. This isn't your NHRA of old.
Now for the car. Loose all of the exhaust after the H-pipe. Get a wireing diagram and see if you can drop in an ecu from a mustang gt of the same year. Put at least a 4:10 gear in it and if you're not within1.2 to .8 of the index. take it to the crusher and use the money for the enjoyable beverage of your choice. Oh by the way, find you a mod motor in a u-pull it wrecking yard and spend the day/week/month just taking it apart. No one watches what your doing or even if your buying anything from it and it will give you an idea of weather you want to wrestle that bear. One last thing check the intake manifold. These were plastic and prone to breaking.

Talking Re: Dime rocket followup - If I build one

I made my post with humor in mind. And with the intent of seeing Robert not waste money on an unknown quantity.

Thumbs up Re: Dime rocket followup - If I build one

Just not really sure why anyone would want to talk Robert out of building his Hot Rod Lincoln. I guess since it's not a 68 Camaro or a DP or CJ, it won't work. 2/3 of the class cars out there would never have come to be if someone didn't take a chance. This car is as unique a Gremlin or a Caddy or a 4 door Nova or a 9 passenger Caprice wagon. No reason why in should not work, it's just a long wheelbase 5.0 Mustang.
Good luck with that project Robert.

Thanks for the replies guys. I do realise this could easily become a money pit. Ed, though we've never met, I took your comments tougue in cheek, as the humor they were meant to be.

I am weighing the options on this. Honestly, Larry is closest to my intentions. I intend to take the car in it's stock form to the track, after weighing the car. We'll see just how far off it is. I've done some number crunching, if it falls somewhere within the range I anticipate. Then use that as a benchmark to to decide if we want to pursue it further. If it's a total dog, we'll strip it and sell it by the pound.

That combo will fly, but be prepared to spend. Its not going to be a dime rocket ask the captain about 4000 lb plus cars. They need good parts. There are plenty of good slow cars floating around cheap. You just have to look for them.
