Since they dumbed it down to bracket racing level, the only difference is you can't dial slower than your index.
And if you can't run a second under your index you probably want to avoid heads-up pairings. If they learn you carry .5, guys will probably be working the ladder in an attempt to get you first round. LOL

He's just trying to understand the concept, not look for ways to hold .500. Yes, if you can run faster than your index (and most do) you will most likely dialing that #, just as you would in a bracket race. I was just trying to show the importance of running (at least) your index (for the protection of your dial in) and that you should strive to go as far under your index as your finances and talent allow (for those heads-up races).
And if not for L79 here, maybe some other new blood read this and would like to jump right in!

Well nobody really bracket races any more (except maybe certain Nostalgia SS groups.) When bracket racing began it was handicaped in .5 sec "brackets" 11.00, 11.50, 12.00 etc. What we have now it "dial your own" handicap racing. Stock & SS are much more challenging because the competition isn't restricted to the track. There's much more refined rules, the challenge of working within a structured system and the ever present knowledge that if you spend thousands of $$$ looking for a few horsepower and find it the sanctioning body will give you a few more on Monday for FREE!! It's not just throw a bunch of parts at it - get out the shoe polish and let's race. But thanks for asking.

First, if you have shoe polish on your window it's bracket racing, if you "dial your own" you're bracket racing whether doing so on a Sat. night at the track or within the confines of Stock or SS racing. Second, NSS is not bracket racing, it is Index racing. Indexes are set and you tune your car to the index you want to run. JimR

Those that want to marginalize S/SS racing typically have this "it's just a bracket race" mentality. But to be polite, I'll refain for identifying why they have this attitude...

Super Stock /Stock Racing also is different from Bracket Racing because there is a qualified field with a ladder and no buybacks or multiple entries. Also,if you want to get a good reaction time, you have to "work" on your car.You do not have the luxury of deep staging.

That is not as unusual as some want to tell you. You could always crawl off into a class nobody else runs if you don't want to work on your stuff.
