In NHRA's defense, the Grand Marshal was chosen by ACDelco, the title-rights sponsor for the event. Every year, ACDelco brings in a celebrity to entertain and mingle with their customers and also act as Grand Marshal. Last year, it was ZZ Top's Billy Gibson and the year before it Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of KISS.

In defense of Hulk Hogan, I was lucky enough to meet him during a charity event. He was nothing like to persona that I saw on TV. In fact it was almost the oppisite, he was quite articulate and soft spoken. Remember that he is just an entertainer playing a roll.

Dave, Please, Please don't hurt us old ZZ Top Fans.... It's Billy Gibbons...www.famoustexans.com/zztop.htm
My sister had a home right down the street from him for about 8 years(Cool place, big Guitar over the driveway) & my cousin was in his high school graduating class...that was before.... Now she says the reuinions are something special...
As far as the Hulk... no preference. Take him or leave him... I do wish he had bitch slapped some other reporters. One was not enough. :~)

Adger,

I realized it when I looked at Ed's reply to my post, but I couldn't find an edit functon at the time. The next time I see a chalkboard, I will write I KNOW his name is Billy Gibbons 100 times.....

And he was a very nice and personable guy. Very approachable and very friendly.

Always wanted to see a mouth like Hogan....or Ventura... do some real fighting.

I'd bet on old Butterbean kicking both their behinds at the same time.

Hogan's pride in his past street racing and bragging about getting out of speeding tickets for extreme speed because of his celebrity status, plus his teen-age son's recent street racing tragedy, make him a very poor choice as Grand Marshall at an NHRA event of any kind, except possibly as an example of what NHRA is not supposed to be about.
